Something like half/full/new moons cause special or different enemy spawns, it'd also be cool if the amount of light outside at night depends on the size of the moon (like it does in real life) and the stars are brighter with less moon light.

Variable brightness would be neat, perhaps it could be related to spawn cycles for mobs. The fuller the moon, the larger the spawning, culminating in the red colored harvest moon of zombie army doom.
As for the thread hijack: sure, more complicated celestial mechanics would be nice :smile.gif: theres a few threads out there covering it. It would be especially cool if the variations were complex enough to allow a player to determine lat and long with a sextant and the upcoming clock. (this isn't as hard as it sounds, the skybox would have to tilt very slightly the farther north/south you went and the time of sunrise/sunset would have to vary by a few seconds the farther east/west you went).
If you would simply read the thread, you would find that it is quite different than the one you suggested.
Back to the idea, I think this would be very interesting.
There could be 4 moon phases: Full, gibbous, half, crescent, and new (as in not visible). At full, monsters respawn at 1.5x the normal rate. At gibbous, 1.25x. Half, 1x. Crescent, .5. And finally, new moon means that no monsters respawn.
and different worlds could be cool too, BUT I like it defaulting to an earth like world.
