SO I have walked into my base several times and been like, This place just doesn't feel like a home. So i had some idea to make it into one. A lot of these are things that are just for decoration. If you have any ideas on how you think they should be crafted, Please do post them along with any other things that come to mind
Bed ( a way to pass time)
T.V( a use for obsidian)
Kitchen sink
Bathtub/shower( a way to restore health)
Toilet
Computer(another way to pass time)
Desks
Bed => maybe. many have suggested a bed spawn-point or fast-forward for single player.
TV => No. I ussually kill people for talking about theme, because it's hazy, but... this doesn't fit whatever the hell the theme is.
Sink => As some sort of water basin, that would integrate into a potential piping system for liquids or possible gasses, yes.
Shower/Bathtub => No. Useless, as well as reasons against TV.
Toilet => No. See last explanation.
Computer => No. However, I have accepted the idea of a sort of looking glass, crystal ball. Also, accesible books.
Desk => Fine. whatever.
Better Furniture Suggestions:
Rugs
Pedestals (for decorative small objects, think crystal ball, or flower pot)
Chairs
Statuary
Wall-Plaques
Wall Mounts (armor or weapons, or trophies)

I think that this idea is alright at best. I do agree that there needs to be more "decoration" but I think that decorations should just be purely that. Decorations. Not really to serve a purpose in the game. i.e. restore health. Other than that I agree with your idea maybe having more decorations, that if you wanted to build and put in the game you can.
The bed should definitely be a fast forward, crafted out of six cloth blocks.
Bam.
Maybe not a respawn point, but more of a fast forward button. I hate how, during the night time - ESPECIALLY when I'm starting a new file, I'm cut short on my resources and wind up smelting all my stuff and then it's not even midnight. So I've got ten minutes of waiting around and freaking out about creepers at my door.
Sleeping in the bed would wake you up at sunrise- when monsters start to catch fire. The catch? Well, during your slumber, you weren't keeping an eye out for creepers, so they might be right at your door and you wouldn't know unless you had good windows.
The rest? No, sorry. Too modern.
Readable/writable books, though? SWEET, I'd love it. Right click with a book to set it on a table or so, then right click it again to write in it. If you right click it on a bookshelf, then it places it in the bookshelf.
Right clicking that said bookshelf would list all the books in there, say five max, and then let you choose which one and then you get on reading.
Great for longer notes about things that won't fit on a sign. Or just writing haikus to pass time because you live in a diamond house and no longer feel like expanding.

For the socially adept miner. It's free, so click it!
Beds: Yes. We need some sort of way to skip through the night, waiting around for green penises to ignite isn't my idea of fun. And it's realistic, at night, you sleep.
Also, make clay much much much much much more abundant, bricks are the fundumental building blocks of almost all structures in modern and past societies, and your telling me it's harder to acquire than diamonds?
Tub? Why not? could serve some sort of purpose or none at all.
Toilet? same as tub. Decorative, but I get sick of RPG houses that don't have anywhere for you to go potty.
Read/Writeable books? YES! YES! YES! YES!
I swear when that happens i am putting as much of project gutenberg texts in my server's main library as I can without making the whole thing crash.
I like the bed idea. Same with the crystal balls/decorative gew gews.

Want something to read? Got ten minutes to kill? Here you go!
I think you can write on paper on your desk you make, which is just wood and two sticks, blah blah blah, and then you can use your specialized paper to make certain books and then the books are put in libraries and KAZAMMMMMM!
With the concept of sinks, tubs, and toilets... remember in the medieval era there was no indoor plumbing. If you had to go you'd have to go to an outhouse, and brave the deadly creepers.
TV, and COMP also out of the question doesnt really fit the theme but I'm sure people will mod it if they wish it.

Get the computer in game then play minecraft.... IN MINECRAFT!
On a side note you just blew my mind.

I like the bed idea. Same with the crystal balls/decorative gew gews.
Also I love the idea of making books writable and readable, and with the crystal ball.
Another concept that I stumbled upon on another thread was the map which would be awesome another thing that someone could put on a bookshelf.
If I remember correctly they made it like this...
It would be cool if people could draw their own map too.
Love the general idea of furniture. I was about to make a post re: the same sort of thing. The specific examples are obviously a little (lot) anachronistic, but I for one would like to turn my buildings into something with a bit more flavour.
I like the idea of a bed passing time fast. I also especially like the idea of using a bed as a new spawn point - walking from spawn point to home can become tedious after a while
Could you please expand on how to craft your TV out of obsidian. Not just a recipe - how do you go about carving your obsidian into a TV? Do you smelt the screen in the furnace first, or what? How do obsidian electronic circuits look like?
I'm guessing the circuits would look a lot like redstone, and the remote control would look a lot like redstone torches. Assuming a TV could function in the game at some level, there's no reason to suggest it wouldn't work "magically" like redstone, or be a product of said redstone.
Much like the fabled, yet terribly convoluted "computer" things people are making using redstone already.
You do realize we have a jukebox in the game, right? That's already an electrical device that didn't come around until, oh I dunno, mid 1900's or something? ...
I find the idea of a TV to be just as ridiculous as you seem to, don't get me wrong. But given what's in the game already, and what's clearly possible within it, TV's wouldn't be out of the question, and perhaps you should at least consider being respectful about it.
And hey, if I've mistaken your tone, I apologize. Just seems you were a bit snarky there is all. :ohmy.gif:)
With the concept of sinks, tubs, and toilets... remember in the medieval era there was no indoor plumbing. If you had to go you'd have to go to an outhouse, and brave the deadly creepers.
Chamberpots too... I'll let someone else clean them though... and muck the stables while they're at it.

I think writable books are one almost everyone wants, especially for SMP. I like the Gutenberg idea though :biggrin.gif:. Reading One Thousand and One Nights via minecraft would be a hoot.

Maps are a nice idea, and would theoretically just be an extension of the current paintings... possibly specing an image file in options.
Personally I'd like to see:
chairs
desks/tables
statuary
beds
maps (nice idea as I said)
Castles actually had a place to sit that would drop your poo down a hole. Some poor fool would have to shovel it out occasionally. If the engineer was smart, it would drop into the moat.
Hell, the Romans (pre-medieval) had running hot and cold water, and indoor toilets and baths. They had a sewer system that would flush the waste out of the city. It was all built with stone and wood, with a little metal here and there. So the bath and toilet aren't that far fetched. Heck, I'm planning on building an aqueduct system after the Halloween update. It will probably be just for looks, but I could maybe use a boat to come down from the mountains, and sail out to sea from the hole I poo in. :smile.gif:
I'm pretty sure that they didn't have powered minecarts or redstone in medieval times.
The thing that puzzles me most when reading the answers in this tread, is that a lot of people assumes that everyone plays this as a meadieval world.. why would we all do that??? Alot of the cool buildings ive seen in game or more modern, and i fail to se a problem with computers, tv's, toilets, showers etc, when we already have dynamite, glass and bricks... glass is the only thing of theese that where actually used during medieval time, and not very often either.. most for churches and drinking glass...
Because that's the setting Notch is creating Minecraft in. This is not up for debate, Notch himself confirmed Minecraft has a mainly medival fantasy style setting.
Yup! Didn't ya know that back in the day of castles and kings, their fancy dance halls had jukeboxes and records? ;o) And ol' magical Merlin was really just a master of redstone devices. Totally awesome dude.
A shame we know his secret now though. :ohmy.gif:(

actually, in medievel they didn't really had toilets, or something

Then line it with signs around the outside, and voila, bed.
