I dont care if this has been suggested before. I want to talk about it and not resurrect some ancient thread with 50 replys in it. Anyway...
Though it would be nice to make it more durable, I think the crash durability is fine the way it is. Im talking about whatever glitch is causing my boat to break when I get out of it.
Many times, ive tried to get out of my boat and something wasnt quite right so instead of jumping off to the side of it, I instead fall through it (or whatever), causing the boat to be destroyed. I know this has happened to you guys at least once. Yes, I know, be careful. I am though. It doesnt happen often, but often enough to want to complain about it. I have a dock in my village that looks like this (birds eye view):
Wood being a door. Its also in a medium sized building, but thats not important.
It is harder to exit my boat in the dock than anywhere else. I dont know why.
Also, why are the physics of a boat in water so loose? Theres not a lot of friction at all when I push the boat accidentally. It goes flying out to sea, making me chase after it. This is why I even have doors in my docking stations in the first place. Id like that fixed too. Obviously less friction than when im inside it, but more than what it has now.
Probably the wrong thread... But I wasnt sure exactly what this fit into since its both sort of a bug report and suggestion.
Also, make i t when its destroyed to actually GIVE the boat, and not tqo planks and sticks :tongue.gif: Docking area? Thats not a bad idea....
Oh yeah, that too. At least give me back most of the planks used to make the boat. If a wooden boat crashes, it doesnt disintegrate into some sticks and a few planks. I can remember recently experiencing the glitch I mentioned and accidentally destroying my boat like 3 or 4 times in a row. I had to walk back and forth from my main storage building to drop the sticks in my chest, take out wood, and make a new boat.
If the boat just dropped 5 Wood when it broke, I wouldn't care how often it happened.
4 planks and 3 sticks then? But even it it did drop 5 wood, youd need a workbench to craft it again. I personally dont have workbenches all over the place.
Well, I think needing a workbench to put a boat back together is reasonable. If I was really that interested in boating, I could carry a workbench with me. My only real goal is to prevent the loss of resources from boats being broken.
Personally, I think this could be more easily fixed by making the jump button automatically pop you out of the boat, instead of needing to right click in order to get out of it, pressing sneak while standing on the boat will pull you into the boat, and pressing right click while pointing at the boat will pull it into your inventory.

I agree this is a valid argument, but the thing is the controls for the boat would work completely against everything else. I think that it should break back into the boat just like the minecart does, because in all honesty it is a wooden minecart that goes on the water.
I agree that the physics too should also be changed. that maybe gravity should affect it a little more, or add more friction to it.
If the boat is still when you break it, it drops a boat, if it's moving fast enough to break by crashing into something, it breaks into wood, the fast you're going when the boat crashes = less wood dropped/more sticks
The boat can't just randomly float out of your harbor, and it doesn't get destroyed on exit (NOTE : REQUIRES BUCKETS)
That is a good idea, but you can't always make a dock when you are out exploring and your boat gets launched away from you when you get out.
My dock on the other hand (as long as you have a bucket) can be built anywhere.

(Top View)
you take your bucket and take the 2 blocks of water from both sides of the middle (on the top view) only one layer deep. You need only one bucket to do this, then you place the water anywhere else in the ocean/water and it will merge with the others causing no effect.
It will look like this:

[] [] (Top view) [] []
This makes a current pulling the boat in from all sides to the stagnant water source blocks in the middle. so that it will not float away as easily as it normally would.
I agree with GreyAcumen, If the boat is still it should in fact drop a boat if it is destroyed. In motion the boat should drop less than the needed materials to make another boat. How much, I am unsure.
Thats a good idea, but I tried it and it didnt work so well. I saw a video of something like that on YouTube and his version didnt work for me. Might be the same one, I dont know. The boat didnt drift on it's own, but even a small push will send it out to sea. Im going to upgrade the harbor for my port village soon, so maybe ill use a modified version of that for the new docks.

Seriously, i don't wanna keep making boats :ohmy.gif:
