I am not sure if this has been stated already as I was reluctant to read through 26 pages of responses but for the directional markers why have 1 stick make 4 markers? Doesn't really make any form of mathematical sense to get 4 markers that would (in theory) need a stick each to produce out of just one. Surely the ratio should be 1 stick = 1 marker? Apologies if this was already discussed.
It makes no less logical sense than 1 stick making 4 arrows.
Also you could be breaking the sticks to make 4 markers

What picture are you talking about? and if you mean the banner, when did it EVER say this was available?
O btw I tried to be Sly and delete the old the version I had made off of imgur hoping people would come get the new one :tongue.gif: But I think it back fired sorry about that
Do you consider the Dye making and Wool dying craft recipes a significant expansion of the 2x2?
I really haven't had a chance to explore the dyes feature. My biggest reaction is being a little disappointed that Notch chose to add this Lapus lizuli stuff instead of just adding a blue flower.
Thinking about it, I can't really say that it does. Even if you can dye the cloth, what can you do with the dyed cloth? I haven't seen any new recipes that use cloth. Does it change the paintings you get when you make a picture from different colored cloth?

Personally, I like the Lapus Lizilu because you can use it to construct these very handsome blocks:
That certainly can't be done with a flower.

What dyed cloth does is it expands the possibilities for color when building things. If, for example, you wanted to build a castle with a red roof, or a giant green statue of a creeper, it would have been absolutely impossible (except in classic). I know I've definitely found plenty of uses for it.
Oh certainly, artistically it's good, but in terms of aiding you in the self-defense, exploration, and resource gathering department it doesn't help much.
A case can be made that you can create dye from flowers or other things you find in your travels (Bonemeal, Ink Sack, ect), collect wool, dye the wool and then use the new colored Wool as markers, granted they don't point in directions, you can use different colors for different routes, and all of the colors can be crafted in a 2x2 grid.
That is a good point, I'll update the Directional Markers so that they're crafted using sticks and cloth(colored), but can also be made directly from sticks and the dye components.
It's understandable for blue dye to be rare; historically it has been. Even if blue flowers were implemented, they should still be rare. The rarity of the blue flower could be maintained easily when making them farmable simply by making it so in order to grow them, you must use the hoe to gather them (at which point you will generally get only 1 flower seed(to grow a replacement flower for the one you killed gathering the seed), but occasionally get a 2nd seed (50% drops for red/yellow flowers?)
In the case of Blue flowers, simply make the %chance of a 2nd seed dropping much lower (5% instead of 50%) Or perhaps even implement a minor chance (1/5 of whatever the percent chance is for the 2nd seed) to drop no seeds at all.
A mod would certainly be feasible, but one of the primary benefits of this suggestion is for newbie players to have more options starting out. Players who are completely new to minecraft generally do not use mods, hence that benefit is lost.
