I like these ideas. May I suggest 1 thing, though? Make the small ore blocks appear the size of half steps and becomes a of whatever type when place on top of each other. When the larger block is destroyed, it drops 2 half-block ore things.
Ok I went back and read further because i was interested in what had started the arguing and I saw that you first called one persons idea ridiculous then called another person an idiot. So someone gets interested in what you have here they click the thread read about it and also you have polls so they give you their opinion and or ask if there is a link someone because they wish there were or weren't sure and you turn around and insult them.
So is that how it is going to be then anyone who is interested in your idea automatically gets treated like crap? whats the difference between doing that and being a troll, if there is any?
So too sum up my thoughts, great idea but learn some manners please as I was hoping you might get enough support for this mod too come out. Sadly I wouldn't be surprised if now i am the one too be insulted.
I haven't insulted anyone or called anyone an idiot. In fact I even told the person who was doing that to stop.
I don't know why you missed that when you took the time to read through the previous page.
I don't see any problem with calling an idea ridiculous when it doesn't consider basic game balance or how it complements the abilities and features of the game that already exists or the other sub ideas that are part of the overall idea of this suggestion. (the same idea that you stated yourself that you found to be game breaking, though if you changed your mind that's up to you, I still find it unacceptable based on reasons I have already stated) Furthermore, I did not simply call the idea ridiculous, but explained the reason I found the idea ridiculous. I then continued to explain that despite finding it ridiculous that I could still see the rational behind the idea on its own, but that it failed to consider a number of other points that are integral to this overall idea as a whole. I've had plenty of my ideas labeled as ridiculous,(or similar terms) and I didn't take those as personal attacks.
just because I have a large popular thread does not mean I'm going to throw away my personal judgment and opinions.

I know it is an example, but this looks like it was made in MsPaint in 10 seconds. How about this?
Erm, well, blurring effects definitely doesn't work with 16-bit, but it looks prettier than that spray-can tool spam you did with MsPaint. I love Paint.NET. =D
To be fair, that WAS a rush job. I was in a hurry to have it ready in time for the blocks poll. I knew that I essentially wanted a sand block that used the same colors as glowstone dust, but it didn't turn out as well as I wanted. The only problem I have with your version is that it looks a little too grayish and the "sparkles" don't stand out well enough, but I'm getting the impression that is a result of blurring from the gif instead of a standalone version without a background. For now, consider the current texture for glowstone sand to be a placeholder.

I like these ideas. May I suggest 1 thing, though? Make the small ore blocks appear the size of half steps and becomes a of whatever type when place on top of each other. When the larger block is destroyed, it drops 2 half-block ore things.
Example:
Having small ore as half blocks is an interesting idea that I definitely will consider. It would give it a much better use than just being a different texture. Having a them form a larger block when stacked, and a larger block drop 2 half blocks is not, since you would be losing a full piece of material in the process of crafting and placing a full block. People who had crafted full diamond blocks would definitely not be happy with that.
I absolutely love this suggestion! I'm pretty new to the MineCraft forums, but out of what I have read, this is by far one of the best.
That being said, I have some suggestions:
Dynamite -
I was thinking the entire time I read about this, that it makes very little sense for Dynamite to be able to be used if the player had no way of lighting the fuse. [This slightly bugs me about current Torches as well, but that's another story]. I was thinking of two possible solutions to this;
Either A) replace the Stick needed to create Dynamite with a Torch, or more better yet, :cool.gif: Dynamite will only be lit if Flint&Steel is in the inventory, and will use one durability of it [if no Flint&Steel is available, then an un-lit Dynamite will be thrown, which would either be able to be picked up like an Arrow, or explode if it touches a source of fire [Lava/Tourch/Fire/ maybe a Forge that's ignited?].
Shields -
Much like how all tools require Sticks that act as a handle, I believe that shields should require sticks to represent holds.
Small: [Iron Shield for example]
Full: [Iron Shield for example]
[]
[Alt. could 2 Sticks in the upper-left corner instead of placing them separately on the sides]
Coal Block -
Additional use: can be ignited, and the top [or ignited side?] will turn into an ember. The ember will give off about as much light as a Torch, or maybe Lava, and will require at least on block of air space in order to stay lit. The ember could damage mobs/players like touching Fire, but not damage items [making them effective for trap building], although possibly burn wood-types. A cool addition to that idea, is that some items would be affected by landing on Embers, like a Pork becoming Grilled because the pig was killing by Embers/the Pork landed on an Ember. Finally, as Torches are meant to one-day flicker out, the Embers could possibly have a time limit, although it would be a long time, it should be able to be increased if the ember is "fed" [Wood blocks? Sticks? idk], and like burning Logs, have a chance of never dying.
That's it for now, and Good Luck; everything you suggested here would make amazing additions to the game!

JolliCraft is probably the best Texture pack out there.
lol, yeah, just a forum for a suggestion. There is some movement towards getting it implemented as a mod, but I'm not committing to anything specific just yet.

If I were to pick one, I'd definitely go with the torch idea, but if you think about it, torches are lit automatically as well, so why not dynamite?

If I were implementing shields as a tool then I'd probably agree with you, but in this implementation, shields are considered armor (hence no stone shields, even though wood does deviate from the standard since it takes the place of leather shields)

Sounds a bit overcomplicated. Maybe just go with Coal Blocks can stay endlessly burning like Netherrack, xcept its fire can spread to nearby blocks? Maybe have it so they can't be mined after they've been set on fire. Everything else just seems like trying to get it to do too much.
That's it for now, and Good Luck; everything you suggested here would make amazing additions to the game!

Oh, I see what you're talking about now. i think you're really onto something there. 2x2 grid creates an "ore slab" and stacking them allows you to get a full block breaking the full block drops 2 ore slabs, and the stone and other slabs should operate the same way so you're not losing material each time you plce and pick up one.

Exactly. Not to mention that the old 9-ore block texture that you suggested for the 4-ore block to use looks sort of like its split into 2 sections so it would make sense to make it out of half blocks. Or maybe you could do this:
And keep your original suggestion of four that would still drop 2 of the ore half blocks.
Example:
Modular Ship Building (& Airships eventually)
