Hey, just an idea here, i dont know if anyone has said it before, but it would be interesting if you could have two knives(one taking up your shield slot) so that its easier to throw one and fight at the same time, in the same respect it could also do twice the normal damage with the disadvantage of not having protection from a shield.
Sorry if this has been said before but i really dont want to trawl through 22 pages of stuff.
Btw, i totaly support this it would make the game much more diverse and fun especially for starting off, the only problem is the damn drop rate for saplings from tree leaves, it would take you a fairly long time to get the wood required for a hatchet mainly because unless you spawn in or near a mountainy forest biome you are stuck with trees where 50% of the foliage is out of your reach. That is not even mentioning the atrocious drop rate of saplings from those leaves you do manage to reach.
Reading comprehension goes down with time my friend. People are quickly getting dumber and the phrase " TL:DR" is appearing all to much. I spent 20 minutes carefully dissecting every bit, just like on your Aether idea and yet most people come in and blindly agree to it or blindly criticize. Time to sleep now, for I am tired and reading your posts is like reading a bedtime story. Is that creepy? Nah.
Sling:
The sling has a slower firing rate than the bow, with a maximum firing rate equal to the maximum rate at which a single enemy can be damaged (you will lose ground if dealing with 2 or more enemies, or if you miss at all). The sling has half the range of the bow at roughly 25 blocks over a flat plane. The ammunition for the sling is Stone Bullets, which are crafted directly from gravel blocks. The main advantage to the Sling is the greater ease at finding/making ammunition and the less difficult requirement of only needing 1 string instead of 3.
Bit late to the party, but: instead of crafting ammunition separately, just add the block of Gravel to the recipe, and have it not need any additional ammunition (you're essentially crafting the little rocks it throws, right into the sling itself).
You wouldd then also have the option to make a sling with an ingot of Gold, instead - for enhanced damage. (Gold having properties similar to Lead, and pre-shaped Lead bullets being better than just well-chosen stones.)

Not only is that idea completely ridiculous (what, the gravel just magically regenerates itself?) but the idea of having a sling with enhanced damage is completely ridiculous. If you want enhanced damage, make a BOW.
I can see your reasoning, it just wasn't really followed through well.
:biggrin.gif: I support all these ideas! We really need boomerangs! Also, I'd like to suggest another thing to add: 2-handed swords. All you do is take a normal sword, but make it 3 layers instead of 1. Advantages: More powerful, more durability
Disadvantages: Slower, takes up 2 Inventory/bar slots, requires more materials.
