I'm gonna say the boomerang is way overpowered. The ability to pick up far away items is to much for anyone tool.
Not really, each item it picks up counts against its durability, and how often do you have items drop that you can't reach by building or mining over to it instead? It's a convenience at best. Though if you have any specific personal experiences in which having the boomerang would have turned the tired for you, please let me know. Did you have an item that was off in the distance and you weren't able to get to it, but would have been able to get it with the boomerang?
How about this as a standard grill:
[] [] []
It would take 1 use flint and steel to cook, (you essentially light the grill on fire) and it would cook 1 item per use of flint and steel.
As a bonus, food can stack in the grill, but only if it is the same type.
Because you essentially light the grill on fire, it has the capability of spreading to nearby flammable objects (so don't put your grill next to a tree or your workbench!)
A portable grill would work as:
[]
[]
and would only cook a limited amount of food before breaking into 1 cobblestone. (it still needs flint and steel to use, but you can stack food in it)
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
I once saw a chicken push a creeper off of a cliff. I never looked at chickens the same way ever again. That is of course until I needed feathers.
I almost voted for the shield idea. I don't like not being able to left/right-click while holding the shift key. Ever since I figured out what sneaking does I use that key like its made of cheesecake, or postashios. I've tried moving the sneak to another key, but the L-shift just feels more right. Maybe if another key is chosen. My suggestion is the L-Ctrl.

If you really need to use left/right click, you could always either temporarily let go of sneak, or just take the shield off. That does bring up a good point though; if you are using the shield and holding sneak down, you can't move as far out to the edge of a block, that way if you need to release sneak, you won't fall if you were at the far edge of a block. You should still be able to move out far enough to just barely place a block along the side of the block you're standing on though. That way it doesn't interfere with using sneak to move out to the edge of blocks as much.
I don't like having the same idea as you (ligh arrows) without any recognition. Could you just put my name up there or something?
Honestly, no. Your idea doesn't use the same recipe, nor does it work the same, and I came up with my idea BEFORE you came up with yours, so if anyone is getting any recognition for anything, YOU should be putting MY name in YOUR thread. (and no, putting my name in your thread will not convince me or in anyway make me feel the slightest bit obligated to put your name in my thread)
Sorry, but no, plugging you for this (quite frankly stupid) reason, would mean that anyone can just create a thread similar to an idea on this thread and go "Hey, you should mention me since my idea is similar, even though I obviously did nothing to inspire your idea" and attempt to ride on the coat tails of this thread's popularity. No offense, but I personally don''t even particularly LIKE the ideas for your arrows either. Ranged attacks already give you a huge advantage in the game, so making them more powerful is just plain OVERpowered, which is why my light arrows do no damage at all, and are only useful for placing torches at a distance. My light arrows also don't need a new placement model; when they hit a block, the arrow breaks and a torch is placed on the wall the same is if by hand.
I have no objections to people trying to plug their work in suggestions that their idea already covers or that are similar to theirs. I've been doing that myself whenever possible to keep this idea active and to gather up as much mass support for my ideas as possible. That's why I didn't object to you plugging your thread earlier, even though I was a little insulted that you were trying to take credit for something that could easily be seen and proven had nothing to do with you.
My recommendation is that you keep an eye out for any topics on "arrows" "bows" "crossbows" or "ammunition" and post your links there to try to gather support, but I'm afraid there's no reason for me to do so from here, seeing as how the majority of the recipes for your arrow ideas all still require a workbench to craft. The only reason I have full shields in this thread is because it makes no sense to have small shields if you don't also have full shields, and both the recipe, usage, and abilities are all based on everything from the full shield being what they specifically are. There is nothing in your thread that is essential for any of my ideas to be implemented.
Well, with already hitting 100 votes in one suggestion, and the others getting at least 2/3rds of that. I think I'm going to start actively asking people to petition Notch through twitter and such.
I think the light arrow is a perfect idea. It would be nice to be able to put a torch ahead of you while in a cave system. Since i usually **** brix when i run up to a corner to place a torch then BAM! CREEPER!
All of the ideas seem great, although I don't think the portable grill will be implemented as much as the rest. I hope Notch recognizes this post, and implements at least some of these ideas.
Oh yeah! I need to thank the person(s) responsible for taking my backpack idea and running with it! I woulda never come up with the satchel myself. So. Thank you. (Too lazy to actually go back and look at names XP)
On another note, I might have a different idea. I'm sure it's been suggested before, but without recieving as much attention as I think it should. A rope arrow. (Can almost hear some people groan.)
And the recipe goes:
[>>-i>]
= Rope
Now, allow me to extrapolate. (best word evar!) We all know Notch is going to put rope in at some point, tis inevitable, so I'm just gonna jump the gun and put this out there. The Rope Arrow would act much like the Light arrow. You shoot it, and rope falls down from the block it hits, even from the ceilling. You cannot retrieve the arrow, and the rope would probably break off from the source block, i.e. the block the arrow hit, alla torch. Could be retrieved like a ladder, or a torch. Some punching later, rope is retrieved, arrow. . . not so lucky. The max length the rope could reach down is 16 blocks. If there should happen to be water below the rope, it will extend through the water untill it hits a solid block.
EXAMPLE: = rope = source of rope = water = water with rope
If, however, there should happen to be lava below the rope before it extends the full 16 blocks, it will catch fire and burn all the way up the rope. But I think rope should be able to be near lava without catching fire, unlike wood.
I think rope should be done in segments, so that have 64 stack of rope would be like having a rope 64 meters long that you can put out in 1 meter long segments. The best part about this is that it could be arranged so that you attach it to the bottom or the side of block, and the rope hangs down a single block. Then by placing another block of rope on the SAME place, it would automatically stick the new block of rope on the bottom of the first block of rope, allowing you to build your way down the side of a cliff without needing to drop gravel until it formed a stack up to you.
If a rope block doesn't have anything above it, it will break, so breaking the top rope block in a long strand of rope would cause all the rope below it to shatter in a cascade, sort of like what the cactus does if you shatter a bottom block, but in the opposite direction.
With this method in mind, rather than crafting the rope with an arrow, you would simply place your rope into your Ammunition Slot, and as long as you had an arrow still in your inventory, you'd be able to fire your bow and one of the arrows in your inventory would automatically be removed, and the rope would simply use as many of it's "segments" as the distance the arrow traveled.
I'm considering using the same method to allow the Powder Bombs to be used by the sling for greater distance, this would also allow you to place Light Arrows from a distance with the Bow, and then throw a Powder Bomb with the sling at that torch in order to break single blocks from a distance.
I see what you're getting at with the reverse gravel thing. But I need a visual guide to fully grasp this. So, here's my picture based on that. Same pic rules as above.
[] [] [] [] []

[] [] [] [] []

[as far down as you're willing to imagine]
You sneak over the edge to place the rope on the side of the block so you can begin the decent ya? Then you keep putting rope on the rope you placed down, like you're trying to put more than one torch in the same spot. But instead of nothing happening, the rope grows longer. Like so:
[] [] [] [] []
[] [] []
[] [] [] []
[] [] [] [] [] (more bits of rope here if you place another rope on rope source)
[as far down as you're willing to imagine]
That's nice. But I have a Problem with the arrow part of the rope thing. Does the rope stack start spending pieces as soon as you shoot? Or after it connects with a solid block? I'm not sure where I was goin' with that as I got distracted as soon as I finished typing that. . .
Anyways, you confused me a bit at the second paragraph. I'll try reading again, but pics help me sooooo much.
yes, you have the initial rope placement correct. your diagram is actually quite well put together and accurate.
As for how much rope is used by the rope arrow effect, that is based on how far you are from the point you shoot. Once the arrow hits, it will then fill the blocks between you and the arrow with sections of rope. If that is too long, you can then punch the lower section of rope in order to gather them back into your inventory without damaging the upper sections of rope.
there is another way that you can limit the amount of rope you use, and that is by only putting a specific amount of rope in your ammunition slot. If you only put 5 blocks of rope into your ammo slot, then when the arrow hits the block to place the rope, it will only hang down 5 sections of rope from that spot.
Woot! New recipe added! Flint crafts from 3 gravel. Inspired by sparr0
I've added this in with Light Arrows and put them both in the "Arrows" category. Effectively I've given it a free 118 votes, but I can't think of any reason that anyone would object to getting flint faster and the poll is set up so people can change their votes if they really object. (leave a comment if it does cause issues)
I'm planning on running new polls eventually anyway, basically only run half or fewer of the choices at any one time and have people cast yes/no votes for each individual category, so that I can see what type of response each category is getting (sure there are 5 votes against every single idea, but if hand tools have 130+ votes, is that out of 150 voters, or out of 200?)
