I don't think the grunt is being changed. That "crack" was the sound of someone falling onto gravel from a height.
As argued above (since there seems to be alot of newcomers to this thread) Creating a "standard" female skin would be just as discriminatory and biased as the current standard male skin. Given that all paying players have the option skin the character into whatever they like is it really necessary to create a second model just so people can advertise their gender?
The simplest solution is to edit the existing skin and "grunt" to appear more gender neutral and let players make their own modifications.
You do that and all of a sudden everyone will sound 5 years old. (The only time at which male and female voices are nigh indiscernible is before puberty)
I want to bring something up to the table, not everyone has the artistic abilities to make their characters female, stop being selfish for once and think about others abilities and not just yours. That's all really, but I don't care I'm a guy so whether or not my character has hips or boobs does not matter to me at all.
No it's not just a few clicks, because to trace another skin one has to have some bit of talent or knowledge, tracing isn't that easy, it still requires talent, just look at how horrible all the traced art is in Deviant Art. Even through copy pasting if you want to change some colours around it still takes a considerable amount of skill. Not only that but they also have to depend on whether or not an artist wants to do their request or not. Not only that but skinning is easy, but actually knowing what you're doing with shading, proportions and simplification of the things you're drawing into a miniaturized pixel form is not. Take into example my John Marston skin, if I had not known anything about shading or proportions he would look nothing like him, at all, and that's a male skin, imagine what would happen to a female skin when a gal/guy wants to create a female skin?
Kind of off topic here
Plus I for one have not seen skins for all kinds of things, for example I haven't seen the skin for a back pack that is not flat, a tail, ears, etc. Our community is very diverse, I say we should take into consideration their wishes too. I've gone on some image boards where they discuss minecraft and I've heard a few furries here and there (furries are everywhere apparently now) whining about the lack of ears, and you know what that's a valid complaint. If anything I say either the modding community gets to work and offers a viable solution, or Notch does. TBH I don't care who does what but I want to see it improved because as of right now, my characters cowboy hat looks like crud because of limitations, and I've seen some horrible Samus skins and other heroines that try their hardest to make it appear like it has boobs.
Anyway, this thread was only last posted in about 3 days or so ago, so might as well say something.
I'm a female, and my only issue is the deep male voice when I get hurt... but even that is only a slight "well that's a bit odd", which quickly passes. I only really take damage when I'm facing some skelly baddies, or falling- the first my attention clearly being elsewhere, and the latter too brief for me to even care.
I'm pretty fond of the default skin, even more so that it's clearly one of the more recognizable things of Minecraft. It's not impossible to make skins look feminine- honestly it can be pretty easy. I think seeing weird cuboid shapes on that model would be... more disturbing then anything else.
tl;dr
Don't really care. Only annoyance is the injured grunt, which even that isn't too bad. No complaints from my end if there's a more neutral sound, though.

Class system: What are you thinking? Cause that would ruin this game.
It was just a side thought. I crossed it out since he mentioned it.
