I think it would be a very wise decision to do away with the creeper. Not only does he look rather boring and bad-design-sketchy, but the dynamic of a random exploding baddie is not only moronic in concept, but it has a tendency to spackle our maps with craters over time. And once survival goes multiplayer, it's not going to be very fun to see that users had attracted a whole host of unwanted explosions all over the game. There needs to be a more coherent way of obtaining gunpowder, and there need to be more interesting baddies than the creeper. It would be tolerable if it was a rare, yet powerful, suicide exploding baddie, with a more interesting looking design, but as of now it is a nuisance to our creations, and takes away a good deal of fun from the game.
turns the game from just a grindy type game to Lego Survival Horror. All other monsters you get fair warning about because they're loud, Creepers are scarier than the Pyrimid Head in SH2.
In some ways, their awful design makes them even more creepy.. like some random pig stepped through a portal to the 99th dimension and suffered ghastly distortions coming out the other side, its atoms on the brink of destabilizing now silently creeping the night with a face contorted in existential despair. Kinda like Event Horizon, but more... boxy =P

Gee I wonder who just died like a nub to a creeper while mining.
They're a perfectly fine enemy, but I do agree there should be other methods for obtaining gunpowder. It takes way too long to make TNT with only creepers as a source for gunpowder.
Just because this person has a different opinion to you, doesn't mean he's a troll.
True, but when a person states that the most Iconic enemy of the game should be removed with their first post in the completely wrong thread for what seems to be an arbitrary reason (many people have suggested a seond way of getting gunpowder) then it becomes more likely.
I mean even if this is a serious post the OP should have realized the numerous reasons why the creeper will likely never be removed. I'm not going to bother with explaining all of them because this should be pretty obvious.
So I'll give the OP the benefit of the doubt by responding like this:
Select peaceful difficulty, that gets rid of zombies, skeletons and spiders too. If you don't want to play peaceful, then just accept that you're going to have to deal with an actual challenge.
Creppers in multiplayer is the feature Im looking forward to!
Imagine you are exploring the world and manufacturing your house and whatever and there is nasty creeps trying to kill you. Survival would mean you would need to stay out of trouble and day time risk it by going outside to get wood, food and materials for armor.

It adds dimension to the game and excitement!
And what of the griever that herd creepers into peoples homes?
To keep them from behind gathered into large groups and dragged to your base.. You can give them a zone to stay in (say 50x50 blocks wide for example), and if they step out of the zone they run back to where they were before they were attacking. Also I agree with having another way to get gunpowder, but it shouldn't be much easier than having to go kill creepers..

MOD EDIT: Stop with the troll-calling. If you're wrong, you're threadshitting. If you're right, you're feeding the troll.
Either way, it's not wanted.

mabye make craftable gunpowder like so?
for 1 peice. (5 gravel, 4 coal)
would give more of a use for gravel as it seems rather useless to me atm other then trying to get flint out of it.
edit: also creepers arent really a problem if you actually pay attention and properly build defenses for your sites.
