...Night draws near. You desperately search for a suitable place to wait out the darkness, and hide from the monsters that prowl in its fog. After a minute or so, a large black shadow sweeps across the land, and you hear the moaning of wondering zombies in the distance. Glancing upwards, you see a full moon rise high into the sky... And not so far off, the blood-curdling howl of wolves hunting for prey.
So yeah, my idea is a wolf mob that only comes out at night. It won't burn in the day, but they'll be docile and run away if they see the player. Wolves would travel in packs of 5-10 and be able to run twice as fast as the player. When attacking in a pack, the wolves will quickly attempt to surround the player first. When the player has his/her back to a wolf, it will lunge and attack, making the player have to turn around to face it (or die), leading the other wolves to rip the player to pieces.
If the wolves can't manage to surround you completely (you have your back to a wall), they'll advance slowly untill they can attack at the same time and do MASSIVE DAMAGE.
The wolf will have 2 attacks: A bite attack, which will do 2 hearts of damage to an unarmored player, and a lunge attack, where the wolf leaps at the player (like what spiders do, but wolfs can jump further) and do 4 hearts of damage to an unarmored player.
Wolfs will also hunt and kill neutral mobs and eat pork dropped from pigs, leaving less food resources for the player.
GREAT. Another thing to hide from during the night. I for one have made a giant Mob trapper that is at least 500x500 squares. They fall into the water trap (above ground of course) and simply cannot get back up because of the water currents and eventually die, as i sit there and let the current push the reward into the center that you can only reach by using a latter and wait for it to pop up into my inventory..

They have a guide about it on Youtube.
