So, I built a house to protect myself. Only to find out that creepers can just blow up the walls. So I fenced it in, only to find out that mobs can spawn inside my fence. EDIT: Now two creepers also spawned on top of my house. Damn it, if I wanted skylights, I would've installed them myself! -.-
Which brings me to the suggestion: Making mobs not able to spawn within the boundaries of an enclosed fence (or a fence with a door in it)
What do you guys think?
Would this improve or impair the survival aspect of it?

Torches create light which keep away the creepers. Thats how the role playing people who create towns do so very effectively: They light up their city at night so that only enemies spawn towards the edges of their town.
