I found Clay for the first time ever after following suggestions of "LOL JST UES BOATZ LOL". I searched for, no joke, a whole hour. How many clay blocks did I find? Four. Yes, four. And now my world size is 32mb.
Clearly, the Clay spawn ratio needs to be increased.
I think you made a mistake. In my world, I find clay every few minutes in groups. I got about 8 clay blocks in 2 finds, which took around 2 minutes in a boat each.
There was no mistake to made. What, do you think perhaps I was not looking? I made a new world, created a boat ASAP, and began to explore beaches upon beaches. I got out, looked around, got back in the boat, rinse and repeat at least twenty times.
I found four blocks. Sixteen Clay blobs. No mistake here.
Ok, I lol'd at the OP, it mirrors my thoughts on the issue exactly. Clay either needs to have its spawn rate made less... irregular, as some people seem to be finding asstons of it but a fair amount have none, or removed. And yes, you CAN make bricks out of dirt. Mud bricks, adobe, this: http://orlando.bizjournals.com/orlando/ ... tory8.html ...
I think having clay in the game is fine; we just need far more of it... Personally I think there should be more ways to create more cosmetic blocks for use. I love having red brick fireplaces and what have you. I lucked out on my latest map and ran into several large supplies of it... But there should be clay far more often mixed in with sand. I've actually generated maps that had absolutely no clay in the initially generated area. Cartograph couldn't find any.
IMO cosmetic things should also be functional in some way. I don't think it's really worth it to have stuff that looks pretty unless you can do something with it beside making them look, say, red and bricky. We need more clay, and we need more uses for it.
keep clay exclusive, makes me more proud of my little brick cottage.
Its take time to gather, and I built a home with it, "dirt" as you refer to is "soil" in game, and soil-clay are very different let me assure you. texture, consistensy, (the ability for anything to grow in it) (its attributes when exposed to heat or water) and a bunch of geometrical mumbo that I know nothing about differs clay from dirt(SOIL).
So therefore my opinion is that you should not be able to burn soil to get red bricks.
Oh, right. I just remembered something: You are most likely not short on clay. Due to the way the game renders, it just haven't rendered the whole world yet - therefor, not all the clay.
In the small area you have visited there's only 263 (what was it again?) clay. But, if you made a boat, and sailed 5 minutes all directions, then you'd have something more close to 859 clay. That, without even digging.

Yeah, I know. I hardly ever get any clay. I found this right next some lava. All of it. I know, it confused me, too.

I never really realized that clay just looks like gray sand. Very confusing, as I thought it was just wet/shadowed sand..
I have a Small chest full of Clay thingys :tongue.gif:

It's unrealistic and it's negatively affecting peoples' gameplay experiences.
