I think that this is EASILY the best thing ever suggested on the forums, and needs to be added ASAP. Honestly, if Notch added this, and mod support, it could be a finished game as far as I'm concerned.

Jesus H. Christ, Minecraft is still in Beta! It's still in the making! This is a good idea, and Notch has probably been planning on having this implemented by the time it's actually finished.

Doing this would be Damned difficult. mainly because of the ways it Could work. it could
1. Be hosted on Your computer. Causing you to have a slower PC and getting Annoyed
2. Host theses servers on Mojang's servers *i dont even know if they have more then the computer for the website*
3.Have a alternate server hosting company host it *it would be REALY expensive*
this idea is unrealistic at this stage of minecraft * still in beta!!!* but maybe if minecraft becomes a huge HUGE game with enough income to host there own servers, then yes this idea would be nice. but not now!!! right now in minecraft you can build a 3x3x3 room with a 2x1x2 room in it and live infinitely! the game still has a huge future infront of it and this is a part of that future, so not right now maybe later kk?
Also get iamx666 (look below) to make you a banner. seriously he kicks ass :biggrin.gif:
Oh lol, first time I read the sig I was like "Make server hosting easter", so when reading the post, i was thinking "Wtf does any of this have to do with easter". Well anyways; server hosting is already easy as is; just use a simple port forwarding tool if you don't know how to use your router (Me, I have a odd ass router). Really; any easier and we would have seven year olds running around thinking their all mighty

I completely agree. Server hosting really does not need to be any easier. If you can forward 1 port you can run a server... (and if you want to LAN you don't even need to do that!)
If you're IQ isn't at that level then, you don't deserve to be running a server...
One thing that ruined Gary's Mod for me was when all the little 7 year old kids had their own RP servers and it was just ****.

I think what he meant was a system like the gears of war so you don't have to download any extra software and you don't have to have such a powerful pc
Omg! This would be awesome, I've tried to host a server so many times, even using stuff I found online which is supposed to make it "easier" but I still couldn't. I really want this so I can make my own server! :biggrin.gif:
U can haz a diamond as a present for your awesome idea!
I see what you are trying to do, but there are a few problems. Minecraft multiplayer simply wouldnt work like on XBOX live, or the PS3. Unlike with specialized game consoles, which are pretty much standardized, PCs come with different software and hardware. Not everyone will be able to run a server. There would be some serious locks, that prevent the creation of a server if the user doesn't have a minimum RAM, storage, and other basics. The list of servers you mentioned would be highly unlikely to work. The servers would lose a lot that makes them unique, being on completely different systems.

This.
Minecraft isn't Gears of War - it needs the current system, you can't have people hosting servers out of their browser at the click of a button.
It's a programming nightmare, and you'd have every little boy or girl trying to run servers, making a terrible job out of it. The quality of servers would degrade rapidly.
Imagine two million people hosting their own server, not even knowing how to do it right?
Some things should remain more complex; being able to create and host a server is one of them. I know many of the kids here think they'd be fantastic at hosting servers, but the sad truth is that most of them wouldn't have a clue what to do.
I'm sorry, but I don't think you realise how flawed this system would be if it were to be implemented. It boggles the mind of a programmer, and goes against common sense too.
This is a good idea, but I have some suggestions. Maybe this simple multiplayer can just be an addon, not a replacement. Maybe it could just be used for when a couple of friends want to play around together on Minecraft. But the current system would be used for more dedicated and sophisticated servers.
There could definitely be improvements but overall, I support this.
Anyways, great work.
Thanks so much!

Hit escape
Click "Publish as server"
Have it come up on my LAN (or be seen if I have a port forward rule through my managed router).
The map would unload, a server would run, the map would re-load with me in the same spot. others could join.
Of course single player maps can't run on servers for reasons that escape me (servers should be able to shard / chunk)
