I like this idea, quite a lot, although I must admit it would pain me to see blocks other than sand/gravel afflicted by gravity. Something tells me it might not happen, due to needing to work out how much can be supported by land it is on/connected to (stone shouldn't fall like sand or gravel currently do), stuff like weight on what was thought to be solid ground but was actually just dirt above a cave, things like that.
If we lose our neat floating rocks, Gravinium is something I could accept to stave that off.
This would be especially useful if you could make multiple gravinium tiles from a single block so that you could make a pathway in the air if you want to cross a chasm.
Could just make multiple hover pads with gravinium ignots...
Somebody mentioned the idea of turning off the Gravinium if it came in contact with Redstone Dust... That could make for some seriously awesome gravity traps. A pressure plate that is connected to Gravinium Ore... Bam! All the blocks around a monster start to fall. When Notch adds in Iron Spikes it could be even cooler. Or even Gravinium Spikes? Spikes that fall down or fall up whenever a trap is activated? I like the idea behind this, and I think it would provide a happy medium for Notch's wish to make floating blocks fall. I don't like the idea of Obsidian serving that purpose because Obsidian is too much work to harvest. A new element would work well for this. Think it fits Notch's wish for new minerals that must have an innovative effect on gameplay. Think this definitely fits the bill.
Perhaps if we are still looking for mechanisms, a Gravinium Drill could be cool? No idea how it would be made, but it would be similar to a Minecart. Maybe set it on a vertical track, and allow it to go down and up, down and up, down and up, and keep mining the space directly below it until it hits obsidian, or an ore it cannot break (maybe higher quality bits? Crafting of it could be something like ( = Gravinium)

[] [] Perhaps even give it a Furnace type coal requirement?
Also like the idea of simply a vertical mine track that's made with gravinium instead of iron. It would stick to the wall and provide vertical movement at the same horizontal speed it was going.
I of Gravinium. Would love to build a tree top fortress, and use jumpers to jump to other buildings. Make it where they don't have a collision model, too, so as I can make an elevator that aims directly up. :biggrin.gif:

~ I've thought about the phrase 'Money is the root of all evil' and I have to disagree. Evil isn't dependant on an object. I say that want is the root of all evil.
Great idea, except for the last part... sorry but I think it would be better to keep the block gravity as it is, it would be better for the players and the coding, and the lag reduction.
