well, gravinium is a cool idea. the only problem i can see with it is it becoming to powerful. imagine a long ranged spear, you hit a player once, he flies up. then you just keep hitting him and he has nothing to do about it because he has a short-ranged sword. so i say no for grvinium weapons. but everything else looks cool. lol, dig gravinium and your island falls down.
i think gravinium should be as you say, but a little less. its a bit unstable. to powerful. i mean, im all in for a new ore, and im like a physics addict, but this is kind of not right, idk. just doesn't seem to fit in, i guess.
maybe this block should just let stuff float... and if it is touched by redstone it stops it's effect. or vise versa. se we can make gravity- traps. =P

You just have to make sure its effects are sane. If enchanting armour with it makes you fly, its OP. If it Reduces fall damage, its probably fine.
pergaps when a bar of gravinium is dropped woth Q, it would float at about eye level instaad of lying on the ground. i'm sur this would cause some WTF moments for first-time finders.

Remember, this is a dude crafting these things in a cave. We are not Tony Stark 'till somebody makes a good quality skin of that.

Or fly skyward, kinda like breaking a block at the edge of a cliff, you might get the ore, you might not.
I like the look of your texture, when you dig it out of the floating island does it crash? Please yes.
If it works as we expect it to, removing all of the gravinium from an island would cause it to crash.
Thanks for reviving my thread, people! Some awesome inputs to be found here. Yes, huge islands crashing down would indeed be epic - especially on SMP. Building a base on a flying piece of landscape would both bring its pros and cons. It would be more resistent to any kind of siege, but at the same time, it could be brought down within seconds if someone managed to sneak in and dig out your gravinium.
As for the float support range: I think it shouldn't be range, but block count. One piece of gravinium could, for example, support a maximum of 320 blocks. If that number is reached, each new block placed on the same body would fall down. If it is placed in a way that it couldn't fall down (on top of other blocks, for example), the lowest piece in the column (or any other close-by block) should fall down instead. As soon as 2 pieces of gravinium are connected to the same body of blocks, the maximum is doubled and so on.
What would be cool though is if push pads and float pads can be activated with redstone. I can imagine it now...
Ah, beautiful morning. I can see why people told me to build on a cliff. Let's see what's out the OMIGOSH CREEPER *flick*. *creeper flies upward and away off the cliff* Oh, that was close. Welp, better go get some coa-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH *flies off cliff*
I really like this idea. It sort of fits in the realm of redstone-at first it may seem too advanced, but it's considered magical and in the world of MC would be a natural resource.
Awesome idea, and it definitely fits the theme of the game. And one would have to be careful so as not to crush themselves and everything nearby when mining it.
If the armor stats prove too complicated, or too much, I've also been wanting an armor that simply does not take fall dmg like all the others. Does not need to be more protective than Iron. It would automatically make it more durable with a less common material than Iron, but not the peak of protection, like Diamond.

Curse PremiumIf it works as we expect it to, removing all of the gravinium from an island would cause it to crash.
it makes more sense to refine a Gravinium to enhance it's effects.
Maybe... Each Gravinium block you place next to another boost it's overall effects for those who doesn't wanna scatter them all over the area?
Grav Block 1 = 100%
Grav Block 2 = 100%
So if you put em next to each other, they both buff each other:
Grav Block 1 = 125% (increased support range)
Grav Block 2 = 125%
So the more blocks you pile up together, into a Gravinium "Core" the more powerful it gets...
I wonder if we can do this with Redstone blocks, to make a "Redstone Core" that has a larger range in a way.
Speaking of which, why can't redstone torches work skyward too?
I think we should keep floaty things as is, but the gravinium IS a good idea.
And that stuff about obsidian floating? I thought he meant like, in water.
