I have created a script to control AMIDST in a linux X-Window environment to search for special seeds.
I originally developed it to look for Mushroom islands close to spawn, adn even found ones AT spawn.
however Minecraft seems to forbid setting spawn to be on a mushroom islands :-)
I since expanded it to look for (what I call) the 5 'rare' biomes all within 3 Km of 0,0 point.
The rare Biomes I look for are
Mushroom Biome
Ice Spikes (packed ice pinnacles)
Mesa Bryce (clay pinnacles)
Savannas Plateau Mountain (epic isolated moutains)
Mega Spruce Tiaga (with mossy boulders and podzol)
However finding all 5 biomes close to spawn is VERY RARE. Basically the new generator tried to ensure that hot biomes (savannah) is not close to cold biomes (ice). As such if you have on of these rare 'extremes', others will not be close. Mushroom island requires ocean too, and that wipes out more 'possibilities'.
I only find one with all 5 rare biomes, for every 20 I find with 4 rare biomes, and even those are rather rare in all the seeds it is examining.

* 'medium sized' but isolated spawn island.
* witch huts close to spawn but with no 'mountain or hills; close by.
What do people think, and what things would you like me to search for in a seed?

Thanks.. And believe it or not the scripting is controled by plain BASH Shell (linux)
But with ImageMagick (screen grabs, image processing, color searching)
various X window tools (applaction window locating),
and xdotool to send keys sequences and mouse moves to the AMIDST program to control it.
Hmmmm no ocean... that is a easy criteria to search on I can easily get a percentage of water to land!
same for a check that jungle (or jungle hills) is available. Now Island finding - that is harder and more intensive searching!
Try this one I found last night as I went through the seeds I had found. It has a very small ocean to west
jungle to north-east but unfortunatally a ice plains too close to spawn.

This island would make a great spawn for a multi-player world, where you want restricted building at spawn. Though I would import some trees for starting players, and set up a good set of docks.
On the north end of the starting island is a hole which goes almost strianght down, and opens at the top of a lava level ravine. Watch you step, big drops.
•Strongholds AT or VERY near(Within 16 chunks) spawn so that the end portal is always loaded which lets you make special redstone machines.
•Multiple witch huts very near each other.
•Savannah M island.
What a fun idea of being able to find biomes you want to be near. I would love to find a world with:
extreme hill mountains, large mesa, Savanna, Roofed forest & swamp not far from spawn. I have been looking with amdist to try & find a world with really great mountain formations with a mesa next to it so I could build & have great views. My perfect world would also have the cold biomes not too far so I can travel there too.
I'd be very interested to see the code for this. I'm currently looking for a good map with lots of land, and a jungle mountain biome south of x0 z200 but within a 2k radius of x0 z0. It's not going very quickly, and I don't really want to ask you to find me one, I prefer to be self sufficient whenever possible, but honestly, coding something that scans a seed for biomes is beyond me at this point. I might be able to modify your existing code to suit my needs however. (assuming you're willing to share it, I would completely understand if you didn't want to)
Alternatively, If you made a version that people could download and set what biomes they want the map to have within a certain radius, you would be my hero.

Hmmm Savannah Mountain sometimes produces an extreme mountain (though also often derpy looking)
But it is Savannah Plateau Mounatin that you want for Isolated peaks!
Strongholds near spawn is problematical with AMIDST serch, the spawn point is rarely where the first pass says it should be.
I have seen it jump up to 1.5K from that location! However strongholds are arranges in a triangle around 0,0 point, so really
it is pot luck if spawn is close to one or not.
HOWEVER, the latest release has a /setworldspawn command to move the spawn point. This should also move what are the always loaded chunks, though when this happens is another matter, it may take a server restart before the always loaded chunks change. Really there is just not enough information yet!
The following is the seed list I have found with rare biomes close to spawn. Though some of these may not be very large they were found. Sorry I did not make AMIDST maps for viewing
I have only looked at a few of them in AMIDST after the program spat the list out (24 hour run), and most I find very interesting in some way. I have not loaded them (except the first) in the real game, so spawn may move.

Perhaps you would like to set spawn on mushroom island, for a mob-less
spawn town. Also grass planted and spread on mushroom islands is a very
good strong shade of green! Of course people will need to swim to get
the first bit of wood and saplings for spawn. :-)

There are 3 witch huts equally spaced around 0,0

Hi, I just wanted to say I really appreciated your thread as well as your specific desired biomes in your search.
In trying to find something just a bit better, I ran across a seed that seemed to be a good candidate also with a lot of stuff close together:

I'm not much concerned with the witch hut location, so this is a seed that reduces the maximum distance to reach any biome from 0,0 to 2770 blocks, and max distance to a witch hut @ 3888 blocks.
Actually it has 3 well separated Mesa Bryce areas. and it is a nice 'lake' in the middle of the Spawn Mesa Area too.
Note it isn't Savannah Mountains that is special (though it can generate some very wild extreme mountains).
The search is for Savannah Plateau Mountain. But this seed has that too, with another village (if it really spawns ingame).
Both witch huts are however near Hills of some kind, so I would not report them
Yes you are correct, the plateau mountain one has a desert village heavily inserted into the savannah plateau M biome with a large mountain reaching Y 154.
The one by the mushroom peninsula is small, another was completely missing, the one by savannah plateau M is small but it is interesting due to it being a desert village that is pretty much 85% inside the savannah biome. It's not directly in savannah plateau M but very, very close.
hmm not a really tall Savannah Plateau Mountain. But it does not look like it is fully loaded on the image either.

In trying to find something just a bit better, I ran across a seed that seemed to be a good candidate also with a lot of stuff close together:

I'm not much concerned with the witch hut location, so this is a seed that reduces the maximum distance to reach any biome from 0,0 to 2770 blocks, and max distance to a witch hut @ 3888 blocks.
Actually it has 3 well separated Mesa Bryce areas. and it is a nice 'lake' in the middle of the Spawn Mesa Area too.
Note it isn't Savannah Mountains that is special (though it can generate some very wild extreme mountains).
The search is for Savannah Plateau Mountain. But this seed has that too, with another village (if it really spawns ingame).
Both witch huts are however near Hills of some kind, so I would not report them

I have seen a house on the edge bit at the top of a deep ravine, which extended a basement wall (if dug out) all the way to the bottom of that ravine!
Very nice village, a little small. like the one single tree next to the well.
