My son and I have been exploring this world (based on WTF seed) for around a year now. We absolutely love this seed. So much in fact that we've been playing in vanilla Survival mode, without cheats, almost the whole time.
Core of our strategy was locating villages and trading, especially with the dumb farmers who pay you for their own wheat.
The priests sell Eyes of Ender which helped us establish a network of Ender chests and locate a Stronghold, without having to find a Nether fortress first.
We found, among other things:
1. 21 villages -- these are spawned villages, not the ones we built ourselves.
2. 11 pyramids
3. 3 ruins
4. 1 Stronghold
5. Several ravines, including massive Quad ravines (one is nearly under the spawn point!)
6. Various mob spawners
7. A waterfall chasm cut by a mineshaft
8. Several spots noted for resources, especially ores and livestock, wolves, ocelots etc. Also pumpkin patches and so on.
BUT, best of all:
9. A Mushroom Island on top of a VAST mineshaft system!
I've meshed the hints given here and a couple of other forums with our own exploration notes and coordinates on an Excel spreadsheet. I've tried to give full credit but I have probably made mistakes.
The notes are based on our ongoing game, so you must make adjustments for the fact that we've built a bunch of stuff (eg a couple of artificial villages that we started ourselves from scratch).
I'd like to post what I've got so far, so we can all benefit. The more we explore, the more goodies we can find.
I also have screenshots showing coords wherever I've found something interesting, like a patch of diamonds...
However, just being polite -- would people prefer me not to play spoiler?
been trying this out. Seems the update changed it...haven't found any of the indicated stuff...
I've tested a brand new world with 1.5, seed=WTF (note the caps) and it spawned me in exactly the same spot (on the edge of taiga and desert) with a desert village a little way off. Looks the same so far.
Invictus40k Please do post your locations both my son and me have also been playing this map for quite some time and will add to your list with what we have found.
Interesting we've done the same! I have a lot of goodies, so I might clip the juicy bits out of my spreadsheet and post a little at a time. Some of these might not make a lot of sense -- we've listed our own bases -- but I'll try to keep it relevant to the plain WTF seed world.
Herewith, the first instalment -- to a radius of 500 from the spawn point, which should keep you busy for a little while:
Coords are x,z
Last column is the calculated distance from spawn point.
(Thanks to an elderly Greek gentleman named Pythagoras).
Notes include y coord where we've recorded it, and acknowledge where I've thanked someone else for their hard work!
<horrible mess deleted -- see next post>
If anyone has requests -- eg villages, mineshafts, etc -- ask and ye shall receive!
If anyone guesses my son's age, I will post the location of Mushroom Island.
From spawn, head west...you should encounter 2 more villages on the way to the seashore. Then it's a bit of a sea voyage to...
(drumroll) The fabulous Mushroom Island!
x=-1750 z=1500 (roughly)... it's what we call a "fixer-upper".
You'll know what I mean when you arrive at your own Mushroom Island.
PS For anyone new to Minecraft: the reason people love Mushroom Islands is because it's the only biome in which NO hostile mobs spawn! Yes, you can walk around in pitch dark and never worry about zombies, spiders, etc. (Unless of course they spawn in the biome next door and wander in.) So Mushroom Islands are a great place to build your base (as we've done).
You also have an unlimited food supply there by crafting mushroom stew from: 1 brown mushroom, 1 red mushroom and 1 wooden bowl.
