I found a 16 vien of diamond ore in my survival world i play on with my brother, and the crazy thing is that it's not on the edge of a chunck!!!??? The seed is 416469024, 1.19.2 and i think the coordanates are -440, -28, 142
That explains it all; the old "one diamond per chunk rule" went away in 1.18, with up to 12 veins per chunk, and more concentrated in deeper layers - you can even find dozens of diamond ore in a single vein now and many others have since reported 16 or more ores in a vein; it may not seem as common when caving since most of it won't generate if exposed to air (the exact opposite of a "cave update"; even with many more and much bigger caves and additional ores that only generate if exposed in a modded world with the old ore distribution/ground depth and a vein miner enchantment I only find 17% more diamond per hour, and only 2% more ores overall, than in vanilla (the exposed ores are more to offset differences in cave distribution than to make them easier to find, less than 5 diamond ore per hour means 6-7 hours to get full diamond gear, 3 hours with Fortune III, and this is simply too much for most players):
7 blobs of 1-4 ores per chunk, from Y=14 to Y=-63. There is a 50% chance to not generate a blob if it is next to air.
1 blob of 1-12 ores every 1⁄9 chunks, from Y=14 to Y=-63. There is a 70% chance to not generate a blob if it is next to air.
4 blobs of 1-8 ores per chunk. These blobs will not generate if they are next to air.
(7 x 4 + 12 + 4 x 8 = 72 diamond ore in a single chunk, and up to 288 in a 2x2 chunk area; it is now even possible to have infinite diamond veins if bugs like the one mentioned here still exist, otherwise they can span multiple chunks. On average, diamond is about 3 times more common than it was before 1.18)

TheMasterCaver's First World - possibly the most caved-out world in Minecraft history - includes world download.
TheMasterCaver's World - my own version of Minecraft largely based on my views of how the game should have evolved since 1.6.4.
Why do I still play in 1.6.4?
huh interesting so in otherwords, it was lucky but not toooo lucky...?
