I wonder if I slam my head into a wall will the pain go away?
Seriously, the 404 cave is as real as sandstone half-blocks and beds.
I'm just trying to compare the three.
I'm not saying the 404 cave isn't cool and amazing. I mean to say, that unlike the 404 cave, it wasn't actually directly implemented by Notch... same as Thomas and Herobrine. The 404 cave is in fact, just another cave.
I'll eat my words if Notch said this was actually done on purpose. That said, this is actually the more fun things that the community has come up with.
Today I was dropped off at the MC Islands. Finally, I can enjoy a break I deserve. Relax, enjoy the sun, explore and all that neat stuff. I had learned Treepunchinsu, and decided to test it in real life conditions. Turns out, it's great! Figured I would need lots of that stuff for fires, torches and whatnot. Made a lil' workbench. Crafted a crude wooden hatchet as I was very tired of punching trees. Once I was done collecting lumber, I decided to collect some flowers, cactus's, even some saplings to decorate my future home.
Very late in the day, I decided to go back to the drop off point, when I suddenly came across a gravel pit along the coast. It's quite unusual, there should be sand here I thought.
So I decided to dig in, just to see what I could find. How foolish of me! The gravel collapsed and I fell down a very deep hole. Luckily, it didn't hurt too much, I just had a few scratches here and there.
Woosh, I hear.
A skeleton shot a deadly arrow at me from a what seems to be an oak short bow. I almost dodged it, but the arrow still hit me in the shoulder. Oh the pain! I thought I was dead for sure...
But something got into me, it felt like some strange being got control of me. I was not a human anymore. I was a manifestation of pure rage and retribution. I was driven by some animal-like instincts. My moves became sharper than ever, and I began to punch that skeleton to death with all I've got.
If you ever got hit by three consecutive arrows, then you know how it feels like to be near death. I won, and the skeleton collapsed, leaving only bones behind. I sat down, and heavily breathed. After a short break, I figured I needed a way to cook a little of bit of pork I "Borrowed" from a pig while on the surface. Then I had to get out of here, and fast.
I quickly conjured a very bad workbench, and crafted a crude pick axe out of my planks. Blast it! I totally ignored the fact that during the fall all of my wood became completely wet, and useless to create fires with. That means no torches for me.
Several minutes later, I crafted a neat little stone pick axe, and ventured down below. I needed a shelter, and fast. I found a relatively safe cave, and let the weakness get hold over my body.

GAME ON! i accept this challenge. but, since there are no rules about mining inside the cave wont it be simple to just make a cobblestone house, an oven, then smelt some glass, cover some lava with the glass, and use that glass covered lava for light for the house and tree farm? thats what i have done so far haha

Yeah, the rules may get refined over time. We'll just have to see what people do with the current rule set.
I'm wary of adding in any sort of "you cant place blocks" rule, because that could make things too difficult. Then again, the harder it is, the more awesome you are when you succeed :biggrin.gif:
I would like to be able to place some blocks, maybe only ones directly replacing a block that was already there with whatever you want, you just cant build structures. Still, that would allow you to hollow out a room easily enough to hide in.
Theres also the issue of mining and hollowing rooms out in general. Restrict to only extracting ores and needed materials + a block or two beyond that to see if you got it all. Mining to extend a lava/water flow should be allowed.
Everyones opinion would be nice. Maybe we'll just see what people do before deciding if its too easy once you get settled in your 'house'.
Only mine ores that are visible. If you see an ore, you can mine it and the blocks around it. No branch/strip mining allowed. You are spelunking/surviving here, not at your 9 to 5 mining job.

The 404 cave is unlike the 404 cave?
The 404 cave is in fact, just another cave.
Well yeah, we all know there's nothing 'special' about the cave. For all we know/care, there may well be just as interesting caves from seeds 403 or 405. It's an artifact of the world generation, no more and no less. No one believes there is something significant or mystical about it. It's just kinda cool. It's nothing like Herobrine, not at all.
I'll eat my words if Notch said this was actually done on purpose.
And I'd eat my hat.
That said, this is actually the more fun things that the community has come up with.
Except this was discovered not invented.
Imma go see if there's anything cool in seed 502...
Oh and the new rule sound good :biggrin.gif:

I was reading a thread about how the new versions may change the map generation, so I decided to save the save and upload it. This will also place the player right next to the 404 gravel as well! You only have 9.5 hearts, partly because you're lazy and used this save, and partly because I spawned on a cactus! I'll put the link in the OP shortly.
lol i like the creeper falling by your face on your way down. Then as you look up to make sure no more creepers rain down on ya.

Thanks for the sig (kinda), but that quote is incorrect. It was modified and somehow the quotes got mixed up. Here is the real quote:

Good start! I like the bit about wet wood preventing you from using torches. If you dont mind I'll use that to explain the rule.
I'll throw a link in the OP of your post/s.
