This is a really nice little village right on the border of plains, desert, and mesa. The screen shot shows one of the two desert temples. The other is directly behind me where I took this screenshot.
You spawn in on savanna, with sheep and cows. Cross the river to the south and you're in plains with more sheep and cows and some pumpkins too. From there, the village and the first desert temple is in sight a little further south.
I suggest that you download Amidst v4.3beta2, run it, select a VANILLA profile for the PCMC version you prefer, and start hitting Ctrl-R. (the link is in my signature)
That will cause Amidst to display the biome map of random seeds.
Hint: Place Amidst in it's own folder and create an empty file in that folder named "history.txt".
When Amidst starts up it will detect that file and from then on will create a log of every seed that it displays.
That way, if you hit Ctrl-R too quickly you can find out what the seed was of the previous map and redisplay it.
Ctrl-H gives you the seed input dialog.
I use Notepad++ as my default text editor.
Here's the Amidst map of "-223301816231646".
(Actual spawn location taken from in game world because Amidst shows a spawn location south east of the village when the seed is entered directly.)
BTW: If you head straight south from the desert temple you will find an extensive abandoned mine open to the surface in several places in the mesa.

Thanks. I have Amidst, and I do use it. I'm just more used to the graphics at mineatlas, so the Amidst maps look a little strange to me. I know the biome colors at a glance in mineatlas. I'm sure I'd get used to Amidst if I used it more.

l'll let you in on a little secret.
If you create a folder in the folder where Amidst resides named "biome", the next time you start Amidst it will see that folder and write a .json file named "default.json" with all the map colors defined for all biomes.
You can then edit a copy of that file and save it in the same folder.
Then when you start Amidst and click on Settings> biome file you can use your personalized color scheme.
One thing though, please don't use a non-standard color scheme to post a map here.

Interesting. To tell the truth, however, I'd rather just use it the way it is and get used to the color scheme. I used to prefer using various resource packs with MC too, but now I just use the default textures. I think it's better to observe the standards.
Before the Biome Highlight function was added to Amidst using a modified color scheme was the only way to quickly search for certain biomes near spawn.
The developers didn't bother to remove the older functionality when Biome Highlight was added.

How on earth do you find all these interesting seeds? o.O
~~ Try out Cultivate, the farming server. You just might love it!
Easy. Go here: http://mineatlas.com/ and punch "Random Seed" until you see one you like. Then try it out in the game.
