If I remember correctly the issue has to do with city locations are selected but the terrain can be such that it is not conducive with the city being in the location so it isn't built.
Shouldn't there be a way to test for this then, since it is amidst?

They probably could however it would most likely require amidst to build that terrain the same way the game does then see if it built it.
So you know towns and mines are not 100% guaranteed also.
I think the primary reason they don't do it is because they want the speed over accuracy.
To me that makes sense. It would take longer finding prospective seeds otherwise.
What I do is I make a list of seeds using amidst then use minecraft to view them and see what is and isn't there.
I figured it would be good to answer in that it points out the proper use of amidst isn't meant to be the end all seed selector. It gives a good general idea of what can be found. Its a map tool that gives the location of where you may or most probably will find stuff.
What causes certain features to not be created in the actual Minecraft world is caused by the fact that some geographical features aren't finalized until the chunks are created in the game. At that point in time the world generator may find that the predicted site of a village or a city isn't suitable for that feature and it won't be created.

Sorry if it's bad to bump this, but I have a good post planned so it should be fine
I downloaded Amidst because apparently it's "so good" and let me just say- it is. Forget creating random worlds, I will be using this a lot from now on. Here's why I like it and why you should try it.
1. It won't cause anything to corrupt. I downloaded the .zip file for this and then pinned it to my desktop and taskbar. It won't put a virus on your computer (the .zip I'm sure of) and nothing will corrupt.
2. You can select specific things to look for. You can highlight specific biomes to search for and select what generated structures you want to find.
3. It works for all world types. That's right, it works for default, superflat, large biomes and AMPLIFIED. Sadly no customized, but that's probably because of all the settings.
So there you have it.

If you'd like to talk with me about other games, here are a few I play.
Team Fortress 2
Borderlands series (Borderlands 2 is my favorite game, ever. TPS combat is a lot of fun and makes up for the lower-quality story, in my opinion)
Elder Scrolls series
Warframe (IGN is something like That_One_Flesh_Atronach)
Pokémon series (HGSS forever)
Rocket League
Fallout series
Left 4 Dead 2 (Boomer files always corrupt though)
SUPERHOT (SUPERHOT is the most innovative shooter I've played in years!)
Dead Rising series (Dead Rising 2 is one of my favorite games, and the 3rd was a lot of fun. 1st has poor survivor AI and the 4th is bad)
Just Cause series
Come to think of it, I mainly play fighting-based games.
This may be covered somewhere if not in this thread. And I haven't seen others post on my question. In short, fairly frequently I find there is no village where Amidst identifies one. What could be my problem since, as I say, others don't appear to have this problem with the program.
I'm using 1.9 now but had similar experience with 1.8x over quite a while. I'm using Optifine profile most of the time, but Amidst renders an error when I try to run it on my save file, so I have another profile without Optifine which Amidst recognizes using the same save. I hope this is clear and I mention it since I have wondered if it causes my problem.
If this is the wrong thread to raise my question, I can post somewhere else.
I can provide example from the game which I am playing, although I should check it first. Someone identified 4 as having a stronghold in a pit, so tried it out. Wanted to see the nearest village at 260, 788 according to Amidst 4.1; it's not there. And 1364, 308 likewise.
Amidst has, and always will have, a small percentage of false positives when it comes to villages and its predictions of their locations.
This is due to the fact that Amidst only uses the early world generation routines in the Minecraft .jar file and the final decision of whether or not a village will actually be created isn't made until the actual world terrain is created.
At that time it may be discovered that what seemed to be a suitable location for a village from just the 2D biome map is, in fact, unsuitable due to a ravine, river, or some other feature.
Almost all false positives are of villages and they occur about 10% or less of the time.
Much more rarely you will find a false positive Desert Temple.
Even more rare is a false negative, that is, you find a surface feature that isn't indicated on an Amidst map.
Amidst does not work with any profile that uses a modified Minecraft.jar file even one that supposedly doesn't change the world generation routines like Optifine.
So, because of this I always recommend that a pure vanilla profile be available for each version of Minecraft for Amidst to use.

Thank you very much for such an informative and detailed reply.
As an observation in my case I'd say it happens noticeably more than 10% with villages. And, I have also observed the false positive with desert temples as well but not as often as you say.
In any case Amidst is a very helpful program. Without it the game would be enormously more difficult (and frustrating probably).
The more recent version also has the mineshafts which I don't believe were in prior versions.
It's probably worth recording and reporting any false positive Desert Temples, as that shouldn't be happening any more and might indicate something that can be fixed.
Temples don't have the same sensitivity to nearby river biomes etc that villages have*
OK, I'll keep that in mind. I don't recall any recent example of a desert temple false positive, so my experience goes back to prior versions of Amidst and MC 1.8x.
I understand that the Amidst program is designed for the java version of Minecraft. And that the spawn point and generated structures will be different for bedrock version. However, I plan to move the spawn point and I don't care about generated structures. All I am interested in is biome locations and my understanding is that they are mostly accurate for bedrock. I'm not sure how much you know about the coding, but what I am trying to do is figure out how to change the parameter of the Random Seed function to only search seeds with numbers lower than 4,294,967,296 (as opposed to the current java setting of 18,446,744,073,709,551,616). Can you point me to the file/location where I can change this number or direct me to someone who can? Or to a similar program or website compatible with bedrock version? I did see this Amidst add-on but it doesn't seem to work currently and I'm not sure if the developer is still updating it. If you know of anything that might help, I'd appreciate you letting me know. Thank you! =)

Not quite what you're looking for, but the simplest way to accomplish this is to use a spreadsheet to generate the number and copy/paste…
[ "=RANDBETWEEN(1;4294967296)" in OpenOffice (a legally free office suite)
the copy/pasting is more efficient if you generate a large number of seeds and save as a "Text CSV" file first]

First off, there is a new thread in the Mapping and Modding / Minecraft-Tools forum concerning the new version of Amidst (currently v4.1)

does it work with servers? for example, i have access to server files can I use the level.dat file to get the mapping of the seed
If you have the level.dat probably you can issue the /seed command in the server itself?
