I was browsing through new worlds looking for a good one for survival and found this;
What's the percentage of finding this many pink sheep at spawn?
Seed is: 242351485501090090 in default in 1.7.9 PCMC
1 sheep...
2 sheep...
3 sheep!
Not to mention all the horses and donkeys.
I tried deleting the world and using the seed to generate it again to see if it was a one-time thing, but they spawned just like the first time.
Lol, I didn't see the other ones, I was just doing a quick look-see.
Nine pink sheep all within such a small area... Go figure.
Who knows, there might be more; I didn't check all the surrounding plains and savannah biomes.
Update: I was checking around to try to find more pink sheep and found a chunk error.
Is it possible the pink sheep and chunk error are related?
I've had times when creating a new world that the generator messes up and the result is what you have there. But wow, 9 pink sheep. The most I have ever had spawn in a single world is 2.

I went to the same spot and didn't have any chunk error, but still had pink sheep everywhere (maybe even an extra one, which appeared to have spawned where the chunk error you found is):
Also, these chunk errors are likely due to the game not properly deleting chunks, which happens when you quickly create and delete worlds because the game doesn't wait for the internal server to fully shut down before you can delete the world/create a new world, which causes chunks to be left behind (i.e. when you click save and quit to title it should display "saving chunks", etc before going to the title screen). See the bug report here (also related to this one)
Also, nitpick, but that's not a chunk error either. It's a generation bug. A chunk error is a multiplayer thing where one or more chunks that don't load for whatever reason. Not sure if they're still a thing or not, though.

Yes, it is a chunk error. Chunk errors can occur in both single and multi player modes.
I'm only guessing, but I suspect that they are caused by the Minecraft database code not properly zeroing out disk sectors when creating new chunks on machines where a minecraft world has been deleted.
It's also possible that it's due to the operating system of the machine not performing that function.
Does anybody know if chunk errors occur on Macintosh systems?

Wow! This is extremely rare! I just counted the pink sheep around spawn and there are eleven pink sheep in this world. Ten are on the spawn "island", and the eleventh is across a river. All are very close to spawn.

Excuse me if I'm doing this wrong because I'm not good at maths.
0.164 divided by 9 is 0.0182222 recurring.
So I'm guessing that's how it works?
If two events are completely independent the probability multiplies; for example, when flipping a coin you have a 0.5 x 0.5 = 0.25 chance of getting two heads or tails in a row; the probability of more is simply 0.5 ^ n, where n is the number of events.
However, due to the way the random number generator works (pseudorandom isn't truly random) and how the seed is calculated per chunk (using the chunk coordinates and the world seed, which stays constant), what happened in this case wasn't due to completely independent events (the chances of having 11 pink sheep is 0.164 ^ 11 or 0.00000000231; this is out of 11 sheep, so multiply by the total number / 11 to get the chance of it happening); I noted a similar occurrence in this thread, which should be even more impossibly rare otherwise.

I think this is some kind of easter egg mojang wanted us to find, I was playing on a server exploring and then I found a large cluster of pink sheep too. I still don't know how to trigger the easter egg though...

Why do I still play in 1.6.4?

I agree that there is a possibility that it is a generation bug, but still, cool find.

I've never seen this many pink sheep near spawn.
