So, I've been making a map where I want to simulate villagers opening chests, however, when I checked it does not seem to be a blockstate or an NBT tag,
So is there something I'm missing or is it just hardcoded and if it is hardcoded is there any way to simulate a villager opening a chest. By the way, I'm in Version 1.13.
I don't believe it's possible to have a chest open other than having a player open it. To simulate this you could just play the chest open sound when a villager gets near.
It's not hardcoded per se, the server just sent "oh look! a player is opening the chest!" message to the client.
Well, unless you use server-side mod like Spigot, there's no way of injecting those messages yourself.
You could be a little bit creative though, by using custom minecart you can effectively render any block wherever you wanted. Or maybe with custom heads for the "lid"

I'm a programmer. I use C/C++, BASIC, Assembly, and Python. If i sound too technicial, that's because it's the way i think.

My Suggestions
Okay, I just wanted to know if there was any way, I'll just use a resource pack w/ a custom model To make a block look like an open chest.
