I'm starting to learn the power of command blocks, and how they give vanilla servers a taste of what can be done with mods.
On the Realm server I host, I've set up a couple systems that are working really well, and yet aren't unbalancing:
1.) TP system using command blocks: We built a Towh Hall, and in one room we have about 8 command blocks that take members to various community projects, and at each project we have a tp block that will tp them back to the Town Hall.
Also, in the basement of the Town Hall, have set up a room so that each player on the Realm server (max of 20 +me), has 2 command block (TP blocks) which I then set to take them to 2 locations of their choice, so each member has 2 tp's to wherever he wants them to go, and at their destination I put a tp/command block that returns them to the Town Hall.
2.) Rewards system, that rewards members for playing. I set up an objective in the scoreboard that tracks how long people play, using the stat:playOneMinute, so it basically gives an online player 1 point every tick. Then set up a little shop upstairs in the Town Hall, where people can use command blocks to purchase items using those points. The items are expensive, to help balance things out, so this is just a small perk, for example 25 million points for a skeletal horse or zombie horse. This uses 2 command blocks, the first gives them the item if they have enuff points, then the second block removes the amount of points the item costed. Btw, the average player, if they play ALL day for a day, earns like 500,000 points. This system works really well, is a great way to give out: skeletal horse, zombie horse, the 3 types of horse armor, and mob heads!
3.) Secure Vault system. This is simply a box made out of bedrock, with 21 rooms (since a realm holds 20 players + host), no doors in or out. In each member's built I hide a command block , where they want it, that teleports them into the room of the vault assigned to them. Inside that room is a tp/command block that returns them to the location of the button to get in. Creates a nice secure storage system for players on a public server!
Any other cool systems using command blocks and stuff, that work well for community purposes on multiplayer servers that you've seen or heard of?
The Meaning of Life, the Universe, and Everything.
The server I'm starting up has a command block clock set to slowly rotate my camera account, and another clock will teleport the account to a random player at set intervals when it's turned on. That way I don't need to mess around with any plugins or mods that might break to see what everyone is up to. I can activate or deactivate either clock with a /setblock command.
