I am currently working on a puzzle/parkour map and I want to make this "different". I mean I will use some of the old fashion puzzles but I feel like I want to make some new stuff the will actually make people think instead of repeating a pattern. Ideas I was thinking of were kinda timed puzzle and ones where you have to act fast or it resets. Any ideas will be gratefully appreciated. Sorry for the not-so-detailed post, I don't ahve a lot of time right now.
I was thinking... how about making a maze?
Like having multiple piston platforms emerge out of a lava pool at regular intervals, and choosing to jump on a wrong one will burn you.
You have to think, but FAST. I'm not still clear about this idea, but I like it when a puzzle requires speed & timing.
Use pistons so when u push button it well repeat turning them on and of. Giving small time to pass or fall. Thumb up if helpful
I was already planning on using that idea for one of the first 3 courses of my map, although I feel like that idea had been used a little too much. I may add a special circuit so it gets a lot faster.
I'd say you should forgot about the parkour and "the old fashion puzzles" and make completly original map. But it's your choice if you wanna do all the same things everyone has already seen plenty of times...
If you wanna make redstone puzzles I'd recommend you to make puzzles where you can see redstone through glass floor or wall or whatever and you have to flick levers / press buttons to open door or something. Improve it. Make it blend into the environment. They are fairly easy to make If you know how redstone works. You should be able to make really challenging puzzles that way.
I know parkour seems a bit over used because it seems like all types have been done. But I plan on making some new types using filters such as the attribute filter or the magic blocks filter. I might use the glass floor idea although I was thinking maybe it could be used with the special maze I had in mind.

Thats a good idea although the maze idea has been used a lot. I might use the magic blocks filter to make a maze that actually changes so one minute you could be going one way, the next minute its a dead end.
You could tripwires to make a changing maze. For example, certain parts of the floor could open up, or you could hook it up so that the only way to get out of the maze is to go the the end (which is just a dead end), and then back to the beginning where a different hallway is open the when you walked in.

I like to do redstone builds on my channel, and I can probably help you with your in game troubles.
Make it multiplayer. Make like 5 roads, 1 for each player, that last the exact time, with automatic start release gates with a countdown.
Use the jump boost feature and the speed boost feature
Make teleporting checkpoints to a new biome, landscape, theme, place, etc.
Here's a video to explain what I'm saying. I'm waiting for the 1.8 update to finish it because I need to change the facing direction when teleporting at a checkpoint. My running roads are crossing each other in almost each race part so when the players reach the checkpoint/teleport, they're not facing the same direction.
Just to add that with this as a base, you can create teams, give points, create devices that will make traps for other roads, secret passages, shortcuts, etc, etc, etc.

or you can make redstone that activates traps near the map. eg:lava to jump over
I suggest you get a texture to hide certain blocks to make an invisible maze.

Any Tricker ideas?
