HACK III is here! To my knowledge, HACK III is the largest and most powerful computer ever made in Minecraft.
Please note that I am not liable for any mind blowings, head explosions, or any required mandible reattachment surgeries after viewing of the following material.
As a result, it also happens to be one of the slowest.
Still! The power!
HACK III as seen from space (Cartograph).
Update: Display technologies for HACK III:
ALU bits: 16
ALU functions: 7
Max RAM: 32KB
Max ROM: 64KB
Current RAM: 4B
Current ROM: 256B
Clock speed: 150 ticks, 4 tick limiter
Display: Various screens and seven segment displays coming soon
Input: QWERTY keyboard coming soon
Software: UNO!?! coming soon - high priority
While the materials were obtained through a judicious application of INVedit, "HACK" is the name of the conceptual computing platform described in The Elements of Computing Systems.

This is amazing btw better put the link to this thread in your sig.

Just wondering... Is making love to zombie pigmam bestiality AND necrophilia?
When I say "display", I mean that the computer will have a large cobblestone wall with 32 torches one way and 32 torches the other way. These redstone torches will be either lit up or darkened and will represent pixels. It will be rather far away from the user so it can be seen more clearly.
you might wanna change the file you put up since it may not be entirely obvious that you have to put the 16-bit file in the saves not just the extract the zipped folder into it
...in fact the top folder isnt needed you can just directly put the readme and the game files into a single zipped folder
Good point. It was really late last night and I wasn't really thinking clearly; I was just excited about finishing it. I'll change it.
I don't quite understand these CPUs people build in minecraft. What do they do?
The same thing that the CPU in the computer or phone you are using now does.
A conceptual computer, in basic:
1. RAM
2. ROM
3. CPU
1. RAM - RAM means Random Access Memory. It is generic memory that can be manipulated at any time for any purpose to store values needed for the execution of programs. RAM is often connected to your screen, keyboard, etc. This is called memory mapping.
2. ROM - ROM means Read-Only Memory. It's memory that can't be written to and can only be read by the computer, hence the name. Imagine putting a cartridge into an old NES or a Gameboy. That's a chip that contains ROM for the gaming system to manipulate.
3. CPU - The CPU is the Central Processing Unit. It is the main component of any computer. Its job is to take the values stored in ROM, decode them into instructions, and manipulate RAM values to execute that instruction. It's by far the most complicated and most important part of any computing platform.
Save file replaced. I started working on a more comprehensive README that will encompass every component of the CPU so people can better understand it, but I don't feel like finishing it right now.

Old stuff about HACK II:
Here's a YouTube video with more visual detail of the CPU:
CPU overview:
Thanks for checking out my creation and please give me your feedback on this.
I am in absolute awe.
You made this faster than the other minecraft computer had even got an ALU.
My dream for this computer: A very simple version of rummy or blackjack or some other simple card game (UNO?) playable on a screen.
...
By "hack" I suppose you mean INVedited? If so, keep watching for Dr. Hax.
It amazes me how people work with redstone like this. I don't understand it, nor do I plan on understanding it unless I MUST do so.
Anyway, that's pretty cool. A game inside a game.
This is amazing btw better put the link to this thread in your sig.
You may wish to seek medical attention immediately. If not, serious ocular damage could ensue.
Anyways, thanks.
I would pay you to give me that map if I could play UNO on minecraft.
More comprehensive instructions will come later (when it's not 12:07 AM).
Can I get it with a 16:9 widescreen display?
