Most of the people who work with redstone know about new piston features and the problems they cause. Nothing complex with pistons seems to work anymore! That means months and months of well thought-out designs and cuircuts have to be completely trashed, including the clock piston memory, 3x3 and 4x4 piston doors, certain passcode locks, and many other things!
I believe that since we've had pistons this way forever, I think we can keep them the same way. The more complex redstone players out there are going to almost have to relearn EVERYTHING. This is my petition to Mojang to bring back the old piston workings. Please support this, and hopefully everything will go back to the way it was!
I support this statement, my whole elevator designs don't work anymore, and as you said some other things don't, too. But it's only a thing of timing. I re-timed my elevator and it worked well again.
Maybe this is an opportunity to the Redstoneers to re-think their ideas and designs and maybe come up with something new and cool.
But for the sake of comfort, i'd want the old piston properties back.
I wonder if Jeb even thought about destroying all the Redstoners work? Y the Hell would he do that?
PS: Maybe create a poll in the thread to vote for or against it to see the results better?
I disagree. The new piston update gives new opportunities, and makes huge piston-contraptions work better with less lag. The timing issues is nothing compared to the lag, and bug fixes. In the longer term this update is just great. The creations can always be changed so they work with the new piston update, something that was not possible with the problems the piston gave us before the update.

Can you give us any example of a contraption working better than before? And why is there less lag? Because the pistons are slower? If you extend 1000 pistons at once, it'll lag regardless of 1.2 or 1.3

What?!
How can we fix a piston creation of 1.2 that had problems in 1.2? Isn't that a bit paradox?
So we couldn't fix a working creation of 1.2 because we hadn't 1.3 to fix it?
This makes absolutely no sense to me. Sorry if i understood that wrong.
I must say that most of my creations are working in 1.3, but i think the piston change was absolutely unnecessary.
...yeah, you're just butthurt because your stuff stopped working, without caring for the longterm effects this will have on redstone.
Hey! At least 80% of my things are just working right now and doing fine! I don't think you can say this in general.
What are the longterm effects of slower pistons(in retraction)?
I would gladly have every single redstone thing I've ever done broken, if that means it would end up being completely bug free.
What?! Everything is broken but bugfree? This is *****(something not nice but nice enough to not get reported ). It won't work when it's broken, even when it's bugfree!
Like some radicals say:
It's better to destroy everything then it's completely free!
I don't think that this is the desired effect xD
In how far am i "biased"(new word learned! Stupid german language )?
Why do i have to understand code in order to see the effects? The pistons are slower now(in retraction) that's a fact.
Sorry, didn't mean to hurt you. I just don't understand the arguments for it.
And responding to every sentence makes it easier for me.
PS: And you understand the code?
If yes, explain me what's wrong.
PPS: In the last week, i experienced alot of very, well, "unfriendly" things going on here(not against me) and noticed that some users are really overbearing(if that's the word) when it comes to a subject that they think they know better than others. At my first days, i thought the community was nice and friendly, but now i get another image. But i'll stick with it. What can I do against it? I'm just a newbie without any reputation which would make me able to be respected xD
Some just say:"I'm right!"
and then don't respond any more without telling why.
Again: I'm sorry, just explain it to me.

the community wasn't that way evan a year ago!!! However, with Minecraft's popularity growing, a lot of little immature kids who all think they know everything and cry when a creeper kills them are joining the community. This is why a lot of unfriendlyness and immaturity is in the community nowadays

(that being said, I'm still unsure as to what exactly that update was supposed to fix, but I'm unqualified to say - and I can bet you are as well)
+1 to this. And the fact that the OP doesn't even understand means he only cares about the things he has already done, not what the entire community will now be able to do.

"Redstone is a powerful thing. By itself, it does a lot of crazy stuff. When you add lots of it together, it does even more crazier stuff." -Dinnerbone
In any case, over the course of the development of redstone, redstone torches were modified so it wouldn't power adjacent blocks (reducing compactness for "intuition"), and pistons were slowed down from 1 tick to 1.5 tick (an attempt to get rid of bugs/exploits). This wasn't the first time, and I'm not complaining. Of course, you probably weren't there for the last two changes.
I believe that since we've had pistons this way forever, I think we can keep them the same way. The more complex redstone players out there are going to almost have to relearn EVERYTHING.
So your premise is that pistons were like this forever. It's false.
You also claim that we have to relearn everything. Nope. We just have to compensate for a clear change, like all the other times.
I would gladly have every single redstone thing I've ever done broken, if that means it would end up being completely bug free.
I also agree with this statement. The changes to pistons have actually fixed some issues that I previously had to solve with strange and unintuitive methods. If it helps make redstone more intuitive and understandable - I'm all for it even if it slows some things down and breaks other things. It's easy to adjust your builds to make timing fixes - it's not easy to work in a system where there are some things that just don't make any sense and are completely unpredictable.

I think i replied to the wrong post accidentally, cause i feel like i'm talking in the wrong direction xD
EDIT:
I think i got this totally wrong and messed up, sorry for that. But at least it launched a discussion
It is bad because you can't right-click a repeater.
Seriously guys. You're whining like people when Notch added beds/hunger. People said it would ruin the game but it ended up more fun in the long term. Just adjust the timing and it will be fixed for most contraptions.
Can you give us any example of a contraption working better than before? And why is there less lag? Because the pistons are slower? If you extend 1000 pistons at once, it'll lag regardless of 1.2 or 1.3
Which other bugfixes happened to pistons that are changing the gameplay?
Why? And does that mean it's bad in short term use?
What?!

You seriously haven't noticed anything good with the new update whatsoever? I guess the first ting you did when 1.3 came out was to test if your old stuff worked, something that just prove how proud you are of the work you have done. Instead of checking out the functionality of every single contraption of yours, why didn't you go check out the new possibilities?

IM TOTALY AGREEING WITH YOU I WORKED 3 WEEKS ON BUILDING A 3*3 DOOR(IM TEACHING MYSELF REDSTONE AND I DIDNT USE YOUTUBE SO)AND NOW ITS ****ING NOT WORKING ANYMORE IM FURIUOS AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I LOL at all of this.
EVERYTHING broken due to new piston timings can be EASILY fixed with a few ticks difference. In addition, I'm sure there are things that work now that didn't before, and are just waiting to be discovered. So WHAT if something was broken? Nothing that should work is completely trashed! Fix your timings, adapt, start inventing, and find new ways to do things.
Btw, I rather enjoyed the unintuitive part. Often times something done not intuitivelyis better, i.e. being more resources friendly, or faster. I find the fact that a 3 tick signal going through 2 torches creates a 1 tick signal a very useful aspect of redstone.
However, that doesn't mean I agree with it. Pistons have only been changed once since their incorporation into the game, and the "problem" that caused them to "fix" pistons still exist.

What I mean when I say unintuitive is that the behavior makes no logical sense and is at least somewhat unpredictable. I'm all for creative solutions to problems, but when I'm spending two hours rerouting wires around because some arrangements work, some don't, some work in some places, but the same exact design didn't work two bits over... yeah, that's frustrating and counterproductive to the creative process. You know what I mean?
Edit: I'm going to make a video about the particular predicament I'm describing and you'll understand just how ridiculous it was.

If you don't know about it, how can you know that we don't, too?
And when the update makes no sense to the Community(at least for me it doesn't, which doesn't mean i'm the community), why should Mojang do it?
Pleas post examples of what's better now instead of 1.2 without re-designing/fixing things? I dunno, really.

Erm... Pistons actually just got 0.5 redstone tick slower. And that is on the expansion. Retraction is still instant.
