I'm not sure how common this problem is, but whenever I shoot fire charges off into the distance, they always end up freezing and staying in mid-air at a certain distance, and never vanishing from that spot. If I shoot a bunch of them it ends up looking like a flat curtain of floating fire charges.
Even reloading the map doesn't get rid of them. And there doesn't seem to be a way to destroy them yourself either.
Anyway, today I discovered that those floating fire charges aren't just a visual glitch. They can deliver power to a wood pressure plate put beneath them.
So if there's a way to update the game to get rid of these frozen fire charges, you might be able to turn off plates at a distance
yeah ive seen this glitch too, when reaching unloaded chunks they freeze permanently, hmm its a good idea for sort of wireless thing but be a pain to reset everytime because theyre not accurate projectiles sorry my english bad
Apologies for the grave bump, but I found a way to remove them without installing additional software. Place some TNT over them so the Fire Charge is inside the TNT, then set the TNT off. The force of the blast will unfreeze them and send them off in a random direction. This is ideal if there's only one floating Fire Charge, but quite a pain if you have a wall of them.

Thx, glad someone bothered to reply This is still a thing, and I guess I'll use TnT - had it happen to me with thaumcraft 5
This command works to get rid of them:
This worked for me to delete the floating fire charges on our server:

But it's a moot point if you can't get rid of the old ones. Anyone know a way to eliminate them?
You can actually place blocks on top of the fire charge's space, and it'll continue to exist inside of it.

/kill @e[type=Fireball,r=120]
edit:
lol...... just saw the date....
This can still be a problem, and the /kill @e[type=Fireball,r=120] doesn't work. (could be just only me)
But I don't care how old this form is. I have figure out how to do it. And I'll leave a link of a video I made on how to fixed it.
