Hey forum, I think most of you know me for redstone by now, and today i have another original treat designed by myself.
this is just a proof of concept for a much larger random number generator, but also as a tool to explain the mechanics behind the invention. please enjoy the video, and be kind enough to visit the video, and leave a like or a comment.
I don't know much about true random, but this is pretty cool.
the essence of random is essentially any thing un-biased making a choice without thought or anything alike. so essentially randomness is not completely achievable. but if you hinder knowledge from a human and make them choose say shuffled cards at will, its more random. thats where my device draws its randomness, the human choice which has no idea of what their choice affects exactly.
so basicly if theres a human element, be confident you can call it random
Apparently I'm a complete and utter jerk and come to this forum just like to make fun of people, be confrontational, and make your personal life miserable. If you think this is the case, JUST REPORT ME. Otherwise you're just going to get reported when you reply to my posts and point it out, because odds are, I was trying to be nice.
but you cannot manipulate this pattern as dirt resets pseudo-randomly
Wait, I am confused:
What's causing the farmland to revert to dirt? Last I checked that only occurred under the following circumstances:
1) Something walks on it (not happening)
2) Block placed on top of it (e.g. piston head: occurring for three blocks)
I have never, ever, seen farmland revert to dirt by simply being empty.

When farmland is left unwatered for a random period of time, it reverts back to dirt. That's how you lose crops if you don't have the water flowing correctly.
Honestly, between the human element, and the random already within Minecraft, I feel this is the closest I've seen as true random. Good job.

That's....new.
Notably I've been using hydrated farmland since...1.8 or so, simply for the decreased crop growing time, but prior to that I had farms without water (because I didn't realize you "needed" water) and never lost crops.

the other key factor is light level, which if done correctly with lighting and everything a roll should last between 2 and 350 second, could be anywhere imbetween possibly more but not likely.
the most common roll id say would take 10-40 seconds,

thank you :biggrin.gif:
there is definately a number of ways to improve on this, as i will do in the future

Curse PremiumUntil someone sits there and performs the same input multiple times and checks the result. Eventually they'll discover a pattern.
See: Michael Larson.
