I really want to be able to make some redstone machines, but I suck at doing redstone stuff! Can someone please tell me a beginner redstone idea? :happy.gif:

Hm...So how much of a beginner are you? I mean, have you seen any ? If not, go to youtube.com and in the search bar, type 'Minecraft Redstone Tutorial'. This will cover the basics.
If you NEVER made ANYTHING with redstone, then here are some basic thing you can do to practice:
1. try making a piston block-pusher.
-Use a lever, no more than 5 pieces of redstone, and 1 piston.
- Make it so that when you pull the lever, the piston extends.
2. try making a vertical piston-pusher.
- use 5 cobblestone blocks, 6 redstone torchs, some redstone, and a piston.
- Use vertical redstone so that when you pull the lever, the piston extends.
-Place a lever on the side of a block, and on top of it, place a redstone torch. place a block above that, and a redstone torch on thatn block again. continue this until its done.
-when you pull the lever, all of the redstone torchs will change. Now, place more blocks and make it so that redstone carries that current of redstone power ove to the piston, which you will have placed above you head.
2.5 Make a sand-trap!
-Basically make number 2, except put sand on top of the extended piston part. Then, pull the lever. the sand should fall! :biggrin.gif:
-Now pick up the sand. Around where the sand fell, place 1x1x1 cobblestone walls. this way, when you pull the lever, the sand will fall on you and suffocate you.
Have a diamond!

I'll help! You need Hamachi to join my server, but it works pretty well. :biggrin.gif:
Well, Mr. OP, I would suggest making very practical items at first. You could start (i'll assume you know the very basics of how redstone behaves, but not how to apply it with creativity) by making something such as concealed double iron doors. After that, you could make a very simple combination lock, as demonstrated by myself and Suggexxx somewhere in these forums. After that, I would learn about some of the Boolean functions, which can be found on wikipedia. After that, try to make an adder, or you can make a small trap using pistons, or you can make a small binary counter.
Once you learn the "standards" that the community already has in place, you'll become more familiar with redstone and, eventually, be capable of applying it to whatever situation you deem it necessary, which is the point of redstone.

It will help you understand the real basics of Redstone and how or why it works. It explains things slowly and hopefully clearly.
If you want anything else explained, post in that thread and I will try to help you.
