Thank you. That did not help with the door but it solved a much bigger problem.
Is there a way to lock a door?
Only with Iron doors (but you probably already knew that).
Iron doors are the only ones with a hope of being "locked", since they can only be controlled by redstone. To make sure that somebody can't "hack" the door with a lever, you should make sure that it is Closed when receiving an ON signal. This may require playing around with door-positioning to get right, since the common orientation is such that "ON=Open" which is not what you want. You want "OFF=Open, ON=Closed".
Then your only problem is that Iron doors are still destructable.

yes get 2 levers, both connected to the same redstone wire, figure out wich one when activated locks the other.
