If I put a block behind or on top of my piston and I put a redstone torch on it, it won't power my piston as it does on the video's I have been watching.
Does anyone have an idea what is happening? thank you.

torches only power blocks directly adjacent excluding the base block, you would need to place redstone dust on the ground below the torch for the first one, and redstone dust on top of the piston for the second one
