Hello, I'm fairly new to redstone and have been messing around with it. I'm interested in this unique activation style which consists of placing a redstone torch, then it instantly breaks and opens up a passageway. I originally saw it in a reddit post where OP was out in a field, no observers, redstone components nor block above in sight. He just placed a redstone torch on the grass and all of a sudden a staircase opened. I want to recreate this, without the staircase part. So can anyone please tell me how? Thanks!

I don't think redstone torches works this way - maybe he was using a commandblock, detecting this area/block for a placed redstone torch to activate the staircase
Hmm OK.. I misunderstood - didn't realise you wanted the torch to remain
Maybe replacing the sticky piston that is under the block that you place the torch with a normal piston might work??
Not at pc to try it out
EDIT: On PC & I can tell you that it does work as I suggested.
By replacing the sticky piston that is under the torch block with a normal one, when you place (or remove) a torch on that block you still get a 'pulse' output from the redstone block attached to the remaining sticky piston

A youtube search & I found this which sounds like what you are talking about. (t=3:44 to 5:00)
I've tried it in 1.17 & it works
Alright, I'll see if it works.
Update: By the looks of how he setup the redstone, I don't think it's necessarily the same, since the torch instantly broke when OP placed it.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links here. But I'm sure the moderators will understand. Here's the video. https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/qvym0u/i_lost_my_redstone_torch_im_sad_now
And how is the reddit link different from the tutorial?
