I noticed on my server (host is Pebblehost) that players could just leave if they die while I had set the mode to hardcore in the settings, and join back alive. I wanted to make a simple command block system at spawn to make sure they stay dead after dying. I thought of something like executing a looped command that keeps checking if their scoreboard objective death is more than 0, and then putting them into spectator mode, but I have no idea how to do it. Help would be greatly appreciated!
I hope you can get what you are looking for, but the part about, "If you die, you should be locked out of the server" should behave that way by default, at least as far as I know. Did you confirm you have that in your settings.ini file? Or did you just change it using /difficulty? ARE you running Vanilla Server or a LAN session? You appear in the Java Edition forums, it may be good to confirm you ARE using Java edition and not Bedrock.
If you are using Spigot, that would also be good to know. And if it *is* Spigot, you might get better support from spigotmc.org. It could be a bug in Spigot, but without knowing specifics of your server situation, it's really hard to tell. OH! We *are* talking Minecraft 1.14.4?
One last thing to consider for your "Multiplayer Hard Core" experience. *If* you are running Spigot, you *might* consider a look at https://www.spigotmc.org/resources/extra-hard-mode.19673/ which, in my opinion, is a more interesting take on "hard core", especially in a Multiplayer setting. It's one thing if you set up a server for, "last player standing wins", but if you want the server to be ongoing, "Extra Hard Mode" would be more tough, but make for an experience more suited to ongoing multi-player. But enough of the plugin plug, let's see if we can solve the right problem for what you need.
I didnt change it using difficulty, it was in the pebblehost files, and yes, it is a vanilla server. 1.14.4, yes, and java edition yes. Again, yes spigot. Also, I want to keep my server vanilla as possible, so I would like to not use any game changing plugins like that, just one for really simple hardcore. If all else fails, I could always give Extra Hard Mode a try, so thanks for recommending it!
Also, thanks for helping me out with this, maybe we could use a different plugin of some sort. I'd like to keep as a "last player standing" thing.
The ability to *force* Spectator Mode would be a cool thing, as of course all the players "out" will want to watch. The *down* side to this is that "cheating" will be a tough-as-hell call. They can ghost anywhere, see anything.
As it's a Spigot server, you *could* test it on your local machine to "twiddle" settings, restart, putter around with it. You would *have* to install Java to get it compiled, and you would also need "Git". But once you have done it, compiling Spigot is pretty easy, and you should have a copy of what your "production" server is running to verify problems and issues.
Does the pure Vanilla download fromhttps://www.minecraft.net/en-us/article/minecraft-java-1-14-4-released behave as you expect? You can download that at the bottom of the page, and you should have a friend connect via LAN so you have actual "multi-player", or just get a second machine and a spare account. If you do NOT have a "spare account" for testing, it will be hard to test things out privately on a server you own. I have my "admin" Romaq account, and a "RomaqRosher" spare account I use who has no "privilages". I can do all kinds of evil things to RomaqRosher, kill him in horrific ways, and learn how *NOT* to do that to my actual *guests*. So if you can do that, you can test "Pure Vanilla" behavior. If Spigot doesn't match Pure Vanilla behavior, that's a Spigot bug, it needs reported so it can be fixed. But careful testing is the only way to lock these kinds of issues down.
oh my god, i'm so sorry I responded so late lmao. Also, I'm not really good with that file stuff, and I don't want to download anything like Git. Maybe we could make a command block chain that tests if people have one or more deaths and then turns them to spec? idc if they tell other players where stuff is, i'd like for them to see whats happening after they die
Good! I'm glad it worked out. Do keep in mind Extra Hard Mode if you think you need to change things up, but I'm glad to hear you are getting what it is you wanted for your server. Do keep in mind posting Spigot questions on Spigot, they have a really great crew over there. They'll just want to be sure of what version you are running and a few other details, but I keep an eye out there so I can keep my own server in top form.
