After receiving Mojang's Minecraft Exploded Builds: Medieval Fortress for Christmas, I attempted to build the working portcullis (pp. 11-13) on Creative mode. (And just so you don't ask, I did build it correctly according to the instructions. Several times.) However, when I open the gate a row of gravel blocks the pathway. Eventually I found the problem: the pistons that push the gravel aren't being pulled back into place by the sticky pistons underneath so they just hang in mid-air prohibiting the gravel to fall the needed amount. Could this be due to the fact that the pistons aren't retracting in time for the sticky pistons to pull them down? I'm very surprised this doesn't work since this is a licensed Mojang book.
If someone out there has this book and isn't a total moron with redstone (me) I would really appreciate the help.
I am having similar issues with the portcullis not work; however, when I download your fixed version it is corrupt (windows won't unzip the file). I can open your unfixed version, just not the fixed one. I have tried from a few machines, same issue. Can you upload your file again and provide the link?
Thank you so much! However, also having same issues as portalblaster with your file...could you resend the file or post a screenshot of the fix? Thanks!
Ah. I see what you mean. I can make it work by placing a button, which I press after "opening" the gate with the lever, but do you how to power that line of redstone so it works smoothly with the rest of the machine? Some pictures would be greatly appreciated!
(This noob's taking a redstone course this summer...)
Would it be possible for you to upload a screenshot of the fix? I can't download new software since I used a shared laptop. xD You're awesome, by the way, for giving me a hand. Sorry for the trouble!
I'm new to minecraft, started playing with my son and I've become addicted.
i bought this same book and have tried building the portcullis. The problem I'm having is the top two rows of pistons stay engaged. I've looked over the build several times, I can't see anything different then the book.
I can get the top pistons to disengage by taking the redstone out of the hopper. But they don't pull the gate up with it. When I go to the bottom and use the lever to push the bottom pistons up, it automatically engages the top pistons. This is so frustrating. I can never had a 2 block gap between the gate and the gravel. Is there a way to just do one thing that will open and close the gate from the same point? Pull the lever and it opens. Pull it again and it closes?
Hi,I am having an issue with the gate. The third piston on top won't go off and it is built 100% correct I believe. I downloaded the one that works and it works perfectly. I put it in my world and compared both and they are identical. here is my world please help me.
i am having the same issue, the third piston at the top won't activate, but the one directly underneath it does. Everything else works correctly. It doesn't make any sense.
Hello all, Please assist me as I have run out of options. I am doing the same build in the book, however the redstone repeater ( behind the sticky piston by the lever) can not sit next to another redstone repeater (they wont turn on). In the first Pic (IMG_0172), the lever is down, redstone repeaters are next to each other, and the piston is not firing and HOLDing like it should. If i turn the lever on (or up), the piston continually fires down and up until i flick lever off. (see Pic IMG_0173).
To improvise, i created this contraption... (see image IMG_0171). This fixed my problem with that one sticky piston, however, the 20 sticky pistions along the bottom still are not firing, leaving the gate closing, but never opening back up.
Ok I know this is two years old but for people who still have this problem you can fix it by adding a small extra piece of red stone circuitry off the first piece of red stone next to the piston. Bring it forward two blocks on the same level then turn across the front of the gate next put two red stone repeaters set to four ticks which will give the delay required. Finally two more pieces of red stone one at the same level the next a block up are required to join it to the red stone row above. I really hope that makes sense, I would post a picture but being a forum noob I don’t know how.

shift and place hopper against the dropper and make sure all piston is attached to ( or soon to be attached) Redstone Cricut.
