This vmod adds a new mob to the game, the heliopath.
Yes, I was entirely inspired by Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix to originally make these (it was a Luna Lovegood quote, of how the Minister of Magic has an army of them). In the book, it was passed off as a joke, but I thought, man, what if I were to make these? And so I did.
-Heliopaths. They appear as a cascading stream of fire and set things around them on fire. They have the same amount of health as a zombie, but they are far harder to defeat as they are faster, plus the fire effect. When a heliopath is not attacking, it tends to enter its defense mode. When it is in its defense mode, the fire appears as going straight downward. In defense mode it cannot be hurt by melee attacks and must be shot with arrows or damaged some other way. If one goes near a zombie, that zombie will be transformed into another heliopath. They die in deep water, and soon despawn after they are spawned. In addition, they are quite rare, though they can spawn in packs. There is a variant of heliopaths called the Speedy Heliopath, and they move around two times as fast. This stems from a technical bug when a baby zombie is at spawning time turned into a heliopath, as baby zombies are faster than normal zombies.
-The Fiery Core. Dropped from heliopaths upon their death, this item cannot be destroyed and it will not despawn. It does extra damage, sets mobs on fire, and knocks them back. There are only 3 ways to get rid of it: commands, the creative mode button, and crafting it into blaze powder (but why would you do that?) It is a great weapon in a pinch.
Combat:
Combat with a heliopath begins with its fire effect. It will put physical fire down, so keep it away from wood lest you start a forest fire, or the burning of a house. Their strong fire cannot be quenched by rain, and only deep water can put it out. if you do not have a lake or river nearby, then water will not work. In addition, waterfalls and player-placed water generally don't work.
As it sets fire at your feet when you are nearby, it is recommended to drink a Fire Resistance potion or attack it from afar. If you don't have a chance fighting it, try to draw it away from your home and wait it out, as they despawn after a fashion.
If it is nighttime, do your best to keep it away from zombies, as they may be turned into heliopaths as well. They also attack villagers, which may be also turned into heliopaths.
Just out of curiosity, how long does it take to make this kind of stuff?
Back on topic, I'll be sure to check it out! Looks pretty cool!
It really depends. I had to use complicated commands here I knew nothing about, and multiple fails happened. This probably took around two months of non-constant work to make.
For example, MineMachines was far quicker for me because I knew exactly what I was doing the whole time.
Creative Helper took like an hour to make and test because it's so small.
Ambient Particles, I don't even.
True Survivalism took like four months and it's still half-broken if my projections are correct, so yeah...
I'm also working on Omnimancy which requires a TON of /execute and JSONing for books, and I have no clue how long it will take.

Started testing it, I spawned a hoard of zombies that transformed into heliopaths after one of them spawned. I tried a couple of times after that but couldn't get one. Maybe because they're rare? Is there a command to spawn them manually?

How it works technically, is there's a repeating scoreboard centered on the player. It goes from x value to y value, at which point it's reset to x. If a zombie is newly spawned within a certain point of time between x and y, that zombie becomes a heliopath. They're actually pretty rare.
On the other hand, you can just put a name tag on a zombie that is "Heliopath", so yeah...

So if I rename a zombie a heliopath it'll turn into one? I checked that earlier and I think it didn't work... but I'll try again!

True. Maybe I will do that. I can tell you I have 2 that I am working on that I've put on hiatus (to update the others)

Anyone have ideas for an update? The fireball thing can't be done, but anything else is good for an idea. I'm thinking of finding a way to make it less laggy, but I don't know.

Here we go, my fifth vmod!
This vmod adds a new mob to the game, the heliopath.

It can be downloaded at this link: Heliopaths

Figured it was time for a change.

All right, so TinyPic is being stubborn now. I'll try to get screenies as soon as possible.

I can't fully understand it through screenshots.. I need to watch a video!
Oh wait, what is that I hear? It's... it's...
RONUPLAYS! COMING TO SAVE THE DAY!
(I'll test it for a while and do a showcase)

It has to be capitalized and everything though.

I think I found a bug, can't do a review when the redstone clock isn't on!
EDIT: Never mind, just had to reset the clocks!
By the way, since the Heliopath is technically a zombie, it chases villagers!
You can see that in my thumbnail:
looks cool well done on it.
you think you can make it shoot fire balls?
Always has been, always will be.
Probably not, that would make it have to have a blaze attached, and there's no current way to do that without summoning an entirely new mob.

What about if you make it sprint at the player every now and then.
Do you know how fast it is? XD
