Sorry if this is known, but just in case I would like to put this out there. This is a 1x1 size build that can send a redstone signal straight down. It may or may not be optimal, but I just discovered this.

This is how you build it.

R=redstone dust L=redstone lamp P=sticky piston A=air block

B=redstone block W=wooden plank /=lever

It looks like this:

This next part you may repeat as far down as you like.

Edit: Whoops, I forgot I was not in the creation forum. Thought I was, but apparently not.

pretty cool! you can also always use hoppers, and comparators, but still cool!
