I do like this mob, if anything it makes it easyer to kill enderman(or harder if the endermite homes in on you)
I wish that it will give you something when you kill it, so you you actually have a purpose to killing them.
I also wish that it isnt going to be a copy/paste purple version of a silverfish, I checked how much health they have, they have 4 hearts(8 hit points)
They also have stupid AI, they cant swim in water.
Nope, it isn't.
I tried both triggering them in survival and with flint and steel, and nope, this isn't real.
Yep, I guess. It did say on mojang.com that they had updated mob AI!
I just tried it myself, and it turns out a very small amount of them DO. they run away fast as an ocelot, and it's hilarious. I'd suggest spawning a few large groups and lighting one near the middle to try it.
I like how we only get tiny little additions at a time. Reskinning an silverfish, adding particles, and making a mechanic where they spawn on a % chance on ender teleports is an extremely simple job. Ask any of our amazing plugin/mod makers. It would be nice if Mojang added something more significant, rather than a few new blocks here and there and occasionally a new mob. In this case it's a reskinned existing mob. They should take a look at Mo'Creatures, there's a mod that adds fish, birds, and just a menagerie of other fauna that they like to say would 'lag the game', or be impossible.
As I understand it, most of 1.8 is architectural changes to the engine, the few additions they add are more like an encitement to try the snapshots for debugging.
They're literally just reskins of silverfish with the inability to enter blocks and different spawning conditions.
Big woop.
They are more than that.
They're parasitic organisms that latch onto Endermen, and are possibly hatched from Ender Pearls, which may actually be eggs. They make the End significantly harder to defeat, which is something it needed, though I would've rather had a dragon upgrade.
And at least they aren't direct copy/paste/reskins like magma cubes.
They're speculating, not being amazed at how awesome it is as of right now. If you don't like it, why did you even post? >.>
Because I honestly don't see how they'd be able to do anything else with these mobs. With 1.8 drawing closer, I'd much rather have them add a whole bunch of new mobs like 1.4 or just no mobs at all instead of a disappointing, half-baked reskin that's supposedly part of an "ultimate plan".

I suspect we won't see much else other than endermites (which we will have to be patient with to see how Mojang expands on them, as they are quite obviously unfinished), but perhaps all of the restructuring that was done has made it easier to introduce more in an easier manner.
Truthfully, I'm not really too happy about this. They don't look that great and are only going to serve as a mild annoyance. I am a bit curious to see what dinnerbone's "ultimate plan" is though.
This sounds like it's going to ruin ender pearls. We have a city where they're the main way to get around, and it's gonna be really annoying having to stop and kill these things now.
The ender parasite idea and whatever they end up doing with the dragon egg could be interesting. But as far as thrown pearls spawning them, I don't see what that adds to the game. It makes me wonder what the dev team has against ender pearls, because this is the kind of thing you'd do if you wanted to discourage players from using them frequently (and they already do damage, so that's covered). This is the first thing in any Minecraft snapshot I've legitimately hated.

The chance for an endermite to spawn from an enderpearl is very slim. It's about a 5% chance. I think they will be free XP. Pearl and kill if you know what I mean.
i dont understand the point of adding a mob that comes off when a enderman teleports...and then gets attacked by the enderman back..
eventually a enderman could teleport, atack the endermite, teleport atack the next endermite and get killed... seriously whats the point??
Wow you just made a really good observation there. I hadn't thought of that until you brought it up. Really, what is the point of even having a mob that gets instakilled by the mob that spawned it?

Praise be to Spode.

I really prefer a new model for the Endermites.
