I don't mean the trees themselves. They are fine, if kinda funky looking. I mean that hideous "Sweet Potato" colored wood you get when you harvest them. Good God that crap is UGLY! I mean, why not have Ebony trees with nice Black wood? At least you could make it go with things. What other building materials go with that hideous color? Maybe Nether brick, but I can't think of anything else.
Ironically, the color wood they chose for the Acacia trees does NOT naturally occur in the Savanna. The "orange" Acacia is the Acacia Koa, native only to the Hawaiian Islands. The tree that Mojang was probably thinking of:
Is actually the Acacia nilotica from Africa. Interestingly, it is a thorn tree, and it has a beautiful dark red-brown wood with a very prominent and complex grain:
Not at all like the Acacia Koa, which has a VERY orange wood:

I wish that Mojang would consider revisiting the color of the Acacia wood in Minecraft. Not only to rid us of hideous orange wood, but to be more accurate with the kind of wood the type of Acacias they are copying actually give.
I don't think it is hideous, but I definetly think that it has plans for us... ITS EVIL I SWEAR!!! seriously... gray bark, red insides... thats right beside the generic "i wear red and black because EVIL" villian!
but, Bishounen_Floyed has a point. Hawaii isn't a savana.it's a jungle...
wait...
Well, some of us like to make pretty stuff once we have the survival part licked. That orange wood is only suitable for making items out of (Sticks, torches, crafting tables, chests, etc.) that don't care what color the wood is. (IE: No matter which wood you use, they always look the same) it is entirely unsuitable for use as a flooring, wall or roofing material due to it's utterly hideous color. Unless you just use the raw logs as beams where you can't see the cut ends. The bark is nice.
Iron Magus, It must be your monitor. Also the fact that you have both zoomed in super close. If you put them in context you can see how orange the A.Koa wood is. Although that bowl is finished, so perhaps the wood color is a bit off. Here is a better image of raw A.Nilotica wood:
As you can see, it looks nothing like the A.Koa raw wood image I linked in my first post.
Personally, I would have preferred Ebony as a new wood color, since the only other "naturally occurring" black building block is Obsidian. It would also be nice to have a wood that is a "tier 2" wood that required something like an Iron or Diamond axe to harvest. (Although it would suck if you spawned into a Savanna biome unable to even punch the wood for stuff.)
Firstly... Bringing up real life is pointless. Secondly... The orange color actually looks good sometimes depending on what structures you are building. A bit halloweenish sometimes
Also you don't have to use that kind of wood...
Firstly, they are attempting to model the trees after real trees. So real life applies. (Seriously, don't start that argument.)
Secondly, I disagree that it looks good with ANYTHING. It's just too strong a color. Maybe in certain cases it would work, (Halloween house made from Nether Brick or Obsidian and Acacia wood? Hideous, but I can see it.) But overall it's just ugly.
And yes, you CAN build using other wood. Obviously that's what I did once I saw how awful it looked as a flooring material. (Now I just have 3 stacks of useless orange wood slabs.) I just think Mojang could do better than the ugly orange. As noted, Ebony trees would be a nice alternate choice.
Firstly, they are attempting to model the trees after real trees. So real life applies. (Seriously, don't start that argument.)
Real life is as only as good as a starting point. Acacia trees in Minecraft are quite clearly reminiscent of the trees of the same name in real life, but with artistic interpretation. So the interpretation of the artist and their vision as to what is more fitting to the game applies, and I strongly recommend that you avoid that argument at all costs.

I've already been able to incorporate the wood and planks into my builds in various places in ways that I find aesthetically pleasing. That said, you have every right to believe that it isn't something to fit into your artistic palette, but that's never to say that it isn't for others to incorporate and, with enough skill, to incorporate well. That's the joy of optional aesthetic blocks: They can be avoided, utilized or retextured to fit your palette, and absolutely no gameplay is affected. It's such a harmless thing, and it's quite odd to debate.
The main problem with this topic, is that you are trying to put an objective label on something, using a subjective topic. Or in other words, in your opinion Acacia wood is ugly, and so if anyone disagrees with you, you treat them as if they are wrong and foolish for disagreeing with the all-mighty and holy power that is the opinion of you. Everyone has different opinions, you seem unwilling to accept that. In my opinion, I love Acacia wood, I love the orange color it has.

The problem with the truth, is that it never lies.
Do we have to complain about literally EVERY new thing added to the game?
It's a new color, I'm sure there will be people who find ways to make it look nice. If you don't like it, either don't use it or else just make tools with it. Nobody is forcing you to build with it.
Oh great! we got another ugly redish wood again.
ad Jungle wood was bad enough Mojang has managed to top them selfs with the introduction of
even uglier Acacia wood! The tree trunks look like chard body limbs asp. if you chop off a section block of it.
The MC terrain was supposed to mimic the terrain and physics in the 'real world' umm I don't think so!
They are ugly, however, I've seen people utilize it's orange wood well. I guess it doesn't have to be realistic either, because Kapok (possibly what Minecraft's "jungle tree" is unless its somehow a sequoia) wood isn't pink, spruce isn't dark, and roofed tree wood (possibly sitka spruce) is actually lighter than normal spruce.

Okay, now they HAVE to fix it!

Its color scheme is very loud, but that adds to its charm IMO.
This is a game where you can fight a giant skeleton death monster while riding a pig.
Keep that in mind.
