I don't see why you are all complaining about these new additions. Sunflowers aren't the only flowers that'll be released - there's also going to be Lavenders, Paeonia, and possibly even more!
And i think falling particles just server to add an aesthetic feel to the game. Nothing wrong with that.
And to that guy who said falling particles were pointless, what's the point of sprint particles?
Oh, really? What if I wanted a garden connected to my house? What if I wanted an entrance to it, and, if it doesn't face east, then I'm just going to see all these wacky sunflowers staring off all in one direction? Fenced gardens aren't the only ones that exist.
In fact, what if I wanted two sunflowers on both sides of my front door, just like how some people plant roses and dandelions on the sides of their front door? If my front door doesn't fast east, then I'm just going to have these kooky sunflowers that don't look at me as I walk in. Nope, they're just going to face east.
What if I wanted a sunflower field? Every single darn sunflower is just going to derpily stare off eastwards.
So now I think I've proven my point. It does matter which way the flowers point.
Uh... Sunflower fields do point eastward... I live by one.
I love how you people see a new feature that doesn't affect gameplay or mechanics at all, and yet you still cry about it and complain.
I'm not sure you quite understand the purpose of this thread. It's not asking for your rationalized and well rehearsed argument against the proposed features, it's asking for your thoughts.
Regarding this bit of news, I'm having trouble understanding the purpose of the new particles. What exactly do they do?
Why not just make sunflowers face you when you place it, like how placed mob heads do? Making it always face east would mess up a lot of building opportunities unless a building was specifically designed around this caveat (and even then it's not possibly to entirely get around the problem), and it's not exactly doing much to help you tell you where north is because there are already plenty of easier ways to find where north is (F3, the clouds, an L shape on netherrack/cobblestone, etc). I'd much rather be able to choose what direction my flower faces than know which way east is by looking at a flower. I'm also hoping it has more uses besides an aesthetic use (and let's face it, when there is a completely free way to tell where the cardinal directions are is that is accessable as soon as you start the game, you can't exactly call it's east-facing property a use).
Fall particles are okay, I suppose. I don't really care much.

Did something happen to you in your childhood to give you this unreasonable fear of rutabaga?
I don't think sunflowers need any extra use, as they could be an awesome feature to lost players in survival. The only thing is: F3 exists :/ Cool concept nonetheless.
I like the sunflower! I think it's a nice addition to the game! I assume the flower always faces south because that could be the direction the minecraft sun (In case you didn't know, the head of a sunflower turns to face the direction of the sun.)
Sunflowers seem like an okay edition, I'm happy with the idea, though I'm sure it's going to need plenty of work.
Falling Particles will be cool, and should be adjustable with the particles settings. I'm very happy with them.
As for the new biomes...
Hardened Clay, THANK GOD. No more tedious clay farming.
Redwood Forest, meh.

Hey there, all. I stream CTMs as well as other indie games, Minecraft servers and probably that's it. I'm your supreme overlord too so I command you to CHECK ME OUT: www.twitch.tv/techniclepanther
I don't really care much about those, I'm more interested in the new biomes. Hopefully they get that old feel people keep mentioning from version 1.7, and then some. I want unique, visually impressive environments that make me think "whoa, I need to build a house there!"
What I think about this is great some sunflowers and particles , But what about the things Mojang said they were gonna do??? Like adding red dragons "Because dragons are red" and how about that sky world ? we got the end??? Then idk if anyone else remembers this but I am pretty sure they said they were going to make minecarts work as boats in lava...

and how about that sky world ? we got the end??? Yes, we got The End instead, thanks for the observation, Captain Obvious.
Then idk if anyone else remembers this but I am pretty sure they said they were going to make minecarts work as boats in lava. They never said that, and if they did then I am gonna go ahead and say cite your source.
I hate sunflowers - it breaks the sunflowers that exist in many mods, including one of my own. I don't think the feature is necessary, at it only pointing east is pointless.
Real sunflowers face east when mature, so if we can use sunflowers in garden in real life, I'm sure you'll have no problem with them in Minecraft. The falling particles are going to add some immersion to the game, so I welcome them.

The particles are good, though.
Here is the magical, magical part of game development. MOJANG DOESN'T HAVE TO TAKE MODS INTO CONSIDERATION. People always forget this and use mods as a reason to dislike features. If you are using or making a mod, until they are officially supported by the API, then you can't really complain. It's their game and they can do what they want. Also, sunflowers face East in real life, so it is just a logical addition.

Mods were made because people got sick and tired of the company's slow work that included nothing that the user supports. Also, one of you posts said "So mojang has to be slaves to the user?" No. His point was simply to follow what more people liked. At this point, they are much better off adding in that Mod API, that they've been promising for over an entire release phase (From Beta 1.7 to Released 1.7).
Mods add a lot more content, because it's a lot more developers working on it. FTB and Tekkit have became so popular because it adds a lot more content when Mojang didn't add it. Pistons and Repeaters were added because of Mods. Resource Packs were added because of Mods. Adventure and Creative modes were added because of mods. Look at how often those are used.
Now, when everybody wants IC2, BC3, TC3, RC, RP2, and all of those large mods, they actually have to go grab something that isn't supported by mojang specifically, and must download a third-party client to make such Modpack plays far easier to play with. There have been updates that I have specifically despised that haven't added any good content at that time, while others adding a lot more special gameplay-changing content.

Okay, good for you. And yet you still fail, in three paragraphs, to refute my point of until the API is released, and even afterwards, they don't have to take mod content into consideration.

I'm quite excited for the redwood biome - for other reasons, like world painting. Oh, I'm going to have so much fun with podzol.

Way to go
I think sunflowers are a good idea, but as a lot of people have said, facing east is stupid. Make them face the direction you place them in.
Don't really have an opinion on falling particles, doesn't effect the game, only visuals.
