Wait, so how are you even supposed to fish without that sound? Granted, there were red herring sounds fairly often, but it was the only visible sign to say you needed to reel in.
I want to think it is a bug rather than a feature, not even Mojang would actually intend to degrade the experience and accessibility like this. Now I can no longer fish because my eyes aren't good enough to see the tiny end of the fish line bob.
EDIT: As I suspected it seems to be caused by the transition to the new resource system, Mojang probably forgot to update a path reference in the game code.
I don't mind the new controls for the boat, other than the fact that it and horses control like total crap.
The loss of the fishing sound is plain ametuerish if it was intended. Sound feedback is an elementary part of game mechanics. Especially considering that on server the fishing lure doesn't behave right, sometimes wandering around under the water, sometimes floating above it, the only way to know you actually had a bite was via the sound. Now you don't even have that.
Mojang...is less impressive to me all the time. One would assume they'd actually LEARN from their mistakes, not take steps backwards.

Sigh... hello from the future! The boat controls are still not rolled back! And they still suck!
I really liked the boat for all the reasons given here, and more. If you think about it, isn't it the only actual vehicle in the game? And they nerfed it, not in a good way. The most damning thing you can say, is, IT IS NO FUN TO DRIVE THIS THING ANYMORE. It used to be fun. Now it's not.
Same with the fish-on-the-line sound. IRL you actually do listen for the bobber to plop underwater. I suspect there was a glitch that made it problematic to process the fish-reel animation and the sound near-simultaneously. Personally, I'll gladly accept a slight lag on the conflict to still have the bobber sound. You're fishing, lag is not so much of an issue. Unless you're running a fishing contest I guess!
Please, sweet baby Jesus, change them back.

Boats in 1.6: Cant do that anymore, the dumb boat will crashland straight into the island or shoreline with nothing you can do to stop it.
the 1.6 boat controls are as bad as drunk drivers.
Think I will be on here often? Haha no.
Apparently for fishing noise it's a filing mishap.

I don't mind the boat physics honestly..
