I strongly dislike the zombie changes.
Staying out at night isn't practical any more.
It use to be fun building or something out at night, fighting off the odd mob... but now it's zombie after zombie.
Staying out at night is just a waste of weapon and armour durability... it's impossible to get anything done.
For those that say "the night is suppose to be scary/go sleep/go do something else": I do sleep... now. The game is a lot less enjoyable now because of this. I remember digging out a 70x70 box to bedrock, and purposely not lighting it up, trying to get records from creepers and skeletons as a little break from mining (ended up with over a double chest full). Starting a new world with 1.6, it's impossible to chop a tree down at night now.
Also, custom maps are all pretty much broken with the changes to skeletons and zombies, especially the zombies.
Areas were tested and made at a certain difficulty, but with every zombie now crawling their way to you, it basically breaks everything.
I'm seeing a lot of future custom maps requiring you to play on 1.5.2, unless Mojang (and half the community) gets over this stupid zombie craze that is happening at the moment... Last year (or when ever) it was vampires, now it is zombies...
I don't care for zombie apocalypses.
I don't play on "UHC" mode, they aren't a threat, they are just annoying.
I'm really a creative guy, and I like the new blocks and horses. However, I don't appreciate not knowing how to download resource packs on a Mac, and weak armor.
P. S. For all you people who started playing after 1.3, you should have seen all the glitches in 1.3.1. (Or was is .2?)
1.6.1 is a failure, because of the glitches. You can't release a version and declare it stable if you make a new version 2 days after the release fixing 20+ that was shown in the release.
I like the new features and stuff, but Mojang got messed it up...
They should have delayed the 1.6.1 release date to fix the bugs fixed in 1.6.2 and save modders some work.

Good point, I think the zombie mechanics should be implimented as a gamerule, or an option when creating a world.

2) But overall, it is a very cute update.
1) true, and I sure hope it doesn't follow the trend:
1.1
1.2.5
1.3
1.4.7
1.5
1.6.9?
2) I agree, but I am not going to say I really liked any of the new features, so all together, 'cute' is a nice label.
I thought that once the 1.6 was released people would stop posting threads like this. I do like the update, just for the record, but these topics should still be locked. It is all I really ever see on the forums.

THIS ABOUT PEOPLE's OPINION! DID YOU READ THE TITLE? YOU GUYS NEED TO PLAY ATTENTION BEFORE POSTING BAD COMMENTS AOUT OTHER PEOPLE ON THE FORUMS.
The only thing that irritates me was the delayed sprint, and how you have to convert texture packs to resource packs, I mean only map makers use thoses..
RebD here (Still having trouble recovering my original account).
Well, i've been meaning to post my thoughts on this for sometime, but i didn't want to make a whole new thread just to express my opinion (that's not much of a discussion is it?). I'm not going to go through every single change, just the ones that stand out to me the most
Horses; They seem a bit op but i find that is somewhat balanced with the new hunger/potion/zombie mechanics. Having said that, i absolutley love them, far more than i thought i would. In my ssp world, i decided to make many bases rather than one huge mega base (although i do have a pretty big central base). Horses have been a great way of continuing this style of play. i love being able to traverse large areas of land. But i also enjoy how they're not perfect, they're not great for jungles or forests and i will never use them underground. There is no way they will replace minecarts for me, but they're a great supplement for when i'm going to new areas or havent set one up yet.
Health/potion nerf; I don't have much to say about potions because i mainly use fire resistence and speed boost but i'm glad they're nerfed because otherwise the health/zombie changes would just be about making more potions (boring). Whereas with the high price, it encourages me to try and find other ways to deal with the changes then grinding out potions.
As far as the health goes, it's great. The problem i had with the old system was, if you never got hurt, you never had to eat and it always felt weird. The new system fixed this and the "oh no i feel down one block too far and now i have to use one of my few porkchops to fix it problem" (food didn't use to stack back then). But then made healing (and thus mob fighting ) far too easy. The new system is a good mix of the previous two.
Zombies; Love it, just love it. If i had to choose between the new zombies and the horses (which i love) it would probably be the zombies. Night is scary now, i actually use my towers and bases to heal up and for the first time since i can remember, i'm actually playing on normal difficulty.
Leashes; in and of themselves they're really quite fun, not needed but appreciated, I also really like that slimeballs have another use, as i have far more slimeballs than i need for sticky pistons.
Boat mechanics; Well if you guys have heard my thoughts on updates before you'd know, i generally do like everything Mojang does to minecraft, but i will agree with the complainers on this one. Even though it doesn't affect me much as my limited use of boats is in oceans and large water ways, from i understand about the changes, it seems like they've made boats far more difficult to use and i can't understand the reasoning for that, i really can't.
All in all, this is my favourite update ever. i've been able to stick with minecraft because i enjoy base building, village building and mining enough that's it's always been a great game for me. But having said that, i really miss mobs being dangerous from my beta days. since this update i've been really able to get into that side of the game again. And as i've already said, the horses are just awesome imo.
I personally think that 1.6 is an extremely successful update. It is making way for the Mod API and it adds many new amazing things like changing sounds and making custom ones! The new attribute system will be good for changing up adventure maps and PVP as well as the zombie hordes making the game more challenging! I also like the new game rules such as natural regen and the daylight cycle. Plus horses make for an interesting new element and goal in minecraft as well as hardened clay giving builders the opportunity to make some really cool structures! One of the best things is the upside down mobs easter egg. XD Its hilarious
It's a failure. I've in 2 occasions had zombies spawn INSIDE my horse stalls, which are obviously fully lit, on another occasion a zombie spawned behind me (again, in full lighting) and knocked me into lava. I've seen 2 zombies spawn right in front of my eyes, about 2 blocks away from me, a snow golem, and a torch.
-I've lost horses to the noclip bug.
-Now golden apples cost more, so setting up a village will be even more of a grind.
-Hay bales don't even uncraft, so making them is a loss.
-None of the new horse related items are craftable
-Saddles are STILL not craftable
-You can't take the chests off of donkeys (without killing them)
>oh wow new coloured blocks and snow blocks that don't melt
Complaint 2: Because when else do you use the golden apple? Before you only needed one gold bar and an apple. Which was overpowered. You only need 2 villagers by the way to start an entire village.
Complaint 3: That's being fixed in 1.6.2. Though it should've been there in the first place.
Complaint 4: Leads are craftable. Also the horse armor is better in generated chests.
Complaint 5: They were craftable but Mojang changed their mind and made them just their regular saddles. Which is understandable because horses are worth the search for saddles (Saddles are pretty common in dungeons too).
Complaint 6: It's just a chest. Just 8 wood blocks to make one.
Complaint 7: And how is having smooth colored blocks a bad thing?
I didn't argue with other complaints because those were understandable. I will agree the zombie maechanics are a bit too crazy. Should be more for hard difficulty.
I liked the 1.6 update overall. Being able to change the sounds is a great ability.

>when else do you use it
>golden apple was OP
And now it's not worth crafting. It was changed to cater to XxXU1TR4H4RDC0R3XxX kiddies, as a casual Minecrafter I do not appreciate this change at all. The only real change is the amount of time you'll need to grind for it, pure tedium, so I just won't bother.
>search for horse items
'Adventure' is the most awful part of Minecraft, it's a lifeless, mundane and repetitive world esp. with the new terrain generation, holding LMB at y50 to hit dungeons is even more of a bore, I'd pop on an XRAY personally, if I ever went seriously hunting for nametags or horse armor. A big problem IMO, is in servers with a limited map size they (name tags and horse armor) are nonrenewable, once the map is pillaged people will be charging an arm and a leg for either. However, IIRC saddles can be bought from villagers so they are renewable. Horses aren't even worth the search or trade for saddles though IMO, because they can't swim (Mojang can't into realism), and there's no real point in using them to explore, as per my first sentence "the most awful part [...]"
>it's just a chest
It's just an inexcusable bug. I don't give 2 sticks about the cost of the chest. If I want my donkeys to be pristine in a nice build it's 16 gold a pop to kill any that have chests to get rid of the black sheep.
>how is smooth coloured blocks a bad thing
It's a gimmick, and I tested the carpets and was less than impressed, snow piles are still more versatile for building than slabs or carpets, albiet they need a block under them.

Golden Apple: It was really never worth crafting except for curing 2 villagers. I can't say I disagree that the recipe is a little bit annoying. I would've preferred 4 gold bars.
Horse item searching: Now that you mention it, I guess servers with a limited size would be a problem (I don't go on servers a lot). Exploring is pretty bad. I still like that their uncraftable but I completely understand on limited servers and generate structures: off.
The other blocks: Agreed. I like the carpets.
You did actually have some pretty good points when you explained them. I wouldn't say they were enough too make 1.6.1 a failure because there was plenty of good features.
The zombie horde add the feeling of The Walking Dead.
I want to run around to catch alot of zombies and put them in a hole.Throw a splash of instant health II to get level 30.
Legit XP farming ha?

Easier way:
Select 1.5.2 on the new launcher.

I actually got a HUGE fps boost, I usually get 250-300 now I get 450-500. I also really like the update! HORSES! Keep it up Mojang!

Aye lads!
Lol... 1.5.2 was a stable version like 1.4.7 and most of the mods were updated, and even Bukkit made a recommended build.
So I will say that it is more like:
1.1
1.2.5
1.3
1.4.7
1.5
1.5.2
I own a server and I just made saddles for sell. No one have any problems with it.
