I have never been great at combat in MC so I always play on easy as does my wife. I am struggling greatly with the new hording Zombie AI. Is any attack on a zombie supposed to spawn endless spawning zombies even on easy?
My evening encounters are becoming routine. Get spotted by the first zombie, kill zombie, build emergency shelter due to another zombie spawning, kill newly spawned zombies thru hole in shelter, kill newly spawned zombie, kill yet another spawned zombie. Repeat until daybreak.
Is there some way to at least slow down this endless spawning behavior?
Engage them from distances with a bow or kill them with fire : a bow with the fire wnchantment should be the best , the fire on the sword as well but if you can't enchant just bring a flint and steel and burn them down , they'll not spawn other zombies if they take damage from fire .
EDIT : also be sure to lit up the area between the cobble wall and the house because mobs can spawn in your yard if you don't .
Thanks for the strategies. While most will work for later in game, I am just started out on the new 1.6pre. The flint and steel is an interesting strategy. I will give that a shot.

AH, using the bed, would be great idea. I have been searching for sheep but so far but no luck . I could kill some spiders to gather some string to make wool but the zombie and friends are kinda making that impossible.
TBH it'd be great if this feature was something only found on Hard mode. A great many Minecraft players are casual and would rather be able to fight mobs without getting bumraped, whereas the demographic that does enjoy a challenge could toggle this at their leisure.
Peaceful isn't the solution. It's not the way the game is meant to be played.
This new system makes nights feared... but Eh... I wonder how bad its gonna make servers lag.... Since each player has the possibility of getting LOTS of zombies on them.

BooHoo there is some challenge in my game. . .
If someone want's peaceful nights, they can switch to peaceful.
It needs to stay the way it is right now, but only on hard. It should scale on lower difficulty. I fully support people getting destroyed for being unprepared for night and caving, but only on hard. Even though it doesn't scale on difficulty, it's not hard to deal with either. New players are fine as long as they stick to the general rule most of us followed: Stay in a safe shelter at night, go back out during day, go back in during night. Or just sleep in a bed.
I also don't see anything wrong with the new spawning logic. It's not obvious that it's actually happening. I guarantee you if no one posted info on how the spawning worked, people would just think that they increased the spawn rates. Additional Zombies spawn somewhere off screen you can't see, like behind a hill or the walls of a cave.
It is fine as it is right now. Minecraft was/is way too easy. Mobs still need some buffs
No they do not.
Buff the current mobs to be difficult later in the game and it makes it too difficult for people early in the game.
The mobs that spawn from the beginning are supposed to be able to be defeated from the beginning and destroyed later on.
We need new mobs that will spawn later on to make it harder for people later on rather than early on.
The current mobs will be buffed later in the game. Dinnerbone tweeted about making it so that the longer you stay in one region, the harder the mobs there will become, with more enchants and stuff like that.

Won't matter much because by that time any base I have will have a moat trap, lava, fence, cactus, torched up, what have you.
If all else fails just dump a lava bucket on them.
Only thing it really might change is better drops in mob tower if wolves/player kills them in one hit after they take fall damage.
If you think the first night is hard, please go play the better than wolves mod. Find out what an actual hard first night is.
I am glad that they put this feature in for those that want a challenge. However, if I put the game on Easy in the first place, that should be a key indicator that I am NOT looking for a challenge, It should be scaled up or down depending to the difficulty setting.
I'd be fine with it if it wasn't for that fact that I almost went through an entire iron sword just standing at my door killing zombies because a mob of them was knocking on it.
My nephew and I were out farming jungle wood, and within 2 minutes we were under attack beyond any zombie siege I or he had ever seen. There were dozens upon dozens of zombies, spiders, and even the rare skeletons riding spiders in the overworld. (we are both veterans, in diamond armor and weapons, enchanted to IV or V, weapons with knockback II, and we were mauled. It was near the main base, and we had been building a huge horse stable, but this was literally 200 V 2 nonstop attack. It made soloing the ender dragon naked seem easier than breaking a block of dirt with a E4 shovel.

Which is stupid, and so is zombies spawning upon hitting zombies.
Source please?

Something like
block space block
empty block empty
empty cactus empty
empty cactus empty
empty sand empty
If its a place where there is only one way up to you, a bucket of water.
If you have iron and pumpks iron golem guards.
If you have potions maybe splash potions of healing
You can also try dropping 2 sand/gravel on their heads to sufficate them
If you have a piston and a leaver you might sufficate them that way
Theres so many ways to kill monsters or just make them go away than fighting them directly.
Night time is now something to be feared again.

If its bad enogh they might actually have rededit tell them something is wrong and they do something.
I don't how much lag its going to cause single player worlds once it stops being a snapshot.
