Potentially great news (especially for mac users): LWJGL 2.9.0 is out! (never heard of this? check the this thread: http://www.minecraft...o-update-lwjgl/)
Most likely it would be best to wait till Minecraft itself updates to 2.9.0. As LWJGL might have changed a bit of the coding that minecraft uses and could possibly handle it differently then what minecraft is using it for. Or they might have gotten rid of a method that minecraft was using which would cause the game to crash.
I'm with landor, don't upgrade until mojang gives the ok
Minecraft will update it for 1.6 and many user reported performance improvements.
This was completely rewritten for Mac OS so it's worth a try.
Just make a copy and try for yourselves. You don't risk anything if playing on a copy of your game folder...
Also trying new stuff is a great experience and you may learn a lot in the way.
Please report any feedback if you do try it and let others know!
I'm not sure why Mojang has persisted in continuing to use LWJGL 2.4 There have been several very stable versions since 2.4 came out years ago not to mention they keep expanding the functionality of the library. Updating this is almost a must if you're running Linux and it helps many Mac users also with odd control issues.

On Windows, I've had issues with the input jamming up sometimes (Like when I try to sprint it doesn't work) on LWJGL 2.8.4 and 2.8.5, so I've been using 2.8.3. Does 2.9.0 fix any of that?

Your sure your food bar is full or it's not a problem with your input device (keyboard)?
*btw* I am not on a mac and as I understand it, the improvements were for mac's
Thanks for the feedback and no it's wasn't only for Mac but the Mac version was rewritten completely. This is actually what they said: This release contains a complete rewrite of the OS X backend as well as a truckload of miscellaneous fixes. Please consider upgrading ASAP.

This is pretty safe to try but you should backup anyway. You never know.
I had now problems but I haven't tested it long enough to be really sure.
Keep in mind people have worked on this for a pretty long time and this should be stable for Minecraft.
Do not expect any huge improvements in performance or anything magical but fixes are fixes and they are welcome
the "stuck" key issue is real, and it's worse on linux than windows. I've had it kill me many times when fighting creepers. It has been fixed in the more recent versions of jlwge, so try the upgrade.
and the reason mojang didn't do this earlier was most likely to make the game playable on older computers. powerpc users will never get a java newer than 5, but the newer versions of jlwge require java 6, so they will no longer be able to play minecraft, 1.5 will be where their minecraft experience stops until they buy a real computer. This is common with game developers, you maximize your potential market by making a game that weak computers can run. If you wrote it so that you needed a supercomputer, it might look really good and run really well for a total of 10 people, and that loses a lot of money.

Ok I don't think you get what the LWJGL is/does. Infact, when creating a game, you don't actually have to use the LWJGL and still be able to do the exact same thing. Just it allows you to program faster. For example creating a window in java can take you up 5+ lines of code. While with the LWJGL is has a method that does the 5+ lines in it, allowing you only needing to call that method in one line to create the line.
All the update does is optimizing and fixing the bugs in these methods. Now as I said before, some of these methods might have changed a bit. Like what if returned or if the parameter for the method was changed. The game would crash or not even work properly. Which we don't know what methods that are used from LWJGL in minecraft or if these methods were changed regarding what is returned or if the parameters were changed.
Which we don't know if when these methods would be called in minecraft.
So you shouldn't tell people to upgrade as soon as possible. And you should have a little note saying may cause some crashing (but have come across none so far). And It has not been recommended by Mojang.
I would like to invite everyone to try it out (and BACK UP EVERYTHING, just in case...) and provide feedback. -This is what I have written just after declaring the news and it's source (notice words in bold and capital case).
This is experimenting and it should be done in a safe virtual environment that we don't care loosing (a copy of your minecraft folder) especially in these cases where we mess with the content of the bin folder. If someone doesn't know what he's doing and hasn't read anything, I thing that getting a crash or even a world corrupted would be a nice motivation to be more careful and to do more reading.

I've been using 2.9.0 for some time now (nightly builds, before the stable version came out). It has been running great, my game never crashed or anything, and performance-wise it's better than 2.4.2 (the version that is shipped with MC).
(never heard of this? check the this thread: http://www.minecraft...o-update-lwjgl/)
The release info are in this thread: http://lwjgl.org/for....php?topic=4974

Is it good, bad, crashed, fantastic?
Mac user? They have a special message for you:
Here is a guide on how to update but please remember to back up everything:

MultiMC user can update in just a click! ( http://prntscr.com/11mf2g )
It also makes life very easy when it comes to multiple Minecraft versions/modpacks. check it here:

I tried it with terrible results. I gave my wife my glasses for a second, a creeper showed up and now my wife is pregnant.
Stupid 3D..

I'm sure it wasn't my food bar, and my keyboard works fine on all the older versions. I guess I could try 2.9.0 out now.
