I just updated the game, and I'm trying to find a horse on my existing map but i cant find any, Ive walked around, slept and such and went to new areas on the map of grassland (I expect I would see them there?), but haven't seen any yet? Do they naturally spawn? Has anyone seen them without a egg?
Just use the spawn eggs for now, I'm not sure if normal spawning has been enabled for them yet in this snapshot, plus even if it has the spawn rate would be very low on already generated chunks like it is with other passive mobs now. A Hostile mob spawn check happens once every game tick (1/20th of a second) while a passive mob spawn check only happens once every 20 seconds, 400 times slower.
Even if spawning is enabled for them the other mobs already present will prevent more from being spawned if they are at the spawn limit within your range. So unless you kill pretty much everything that isn't a horse in a large multi-chunk area new spawns just wouldn't happen.
The snapshot is in early development, so the hay bales and leashes can't be crafted and have no names as of yet. The horses don't naturally spawn yet, and the only things you can make in survival right now is the horse armor and the horse saddles. Sorry, but you're going to have to wait for now, these things might be added in 13w16b.
-Horses do not spawn naturally yet.
-You cannot make ropes yet.
-You cannot make hay bales yet.
this is not quite correct, and im looking for some clarity as i proceed. after spending a few hours experimenting i have found horses to spawn naturaully in newly created worlds, although verrry rarely and only in plains. i have not been able to find them in anything generated previously. i found them only three times out of probably 50 or 60 new worlds, just flying around plains and then trying again. once a large herd of probably 20 or 30, but usually just one or two. i wonder if their spawn rates are just very low, if that will be better in future snapshots..
Horses do naturally spawn, but they have the problem of instantly despawning when you look away. Try the seed TheBloodDirt and you'll see how the already spawned horses despawn after some time.
They'll only naturally spawn on a new world but despawn when you look away and are around 20 blocks away from them. It's sad
they do despawn. i thought they did, but also thought it was my imagination. we cant really expect this to be implemented very well yet. im sure theyll spawn as naturaully as the other passive mobs when 1.6 releases...i hope
How to get horses in Snapshot 13W16A Survival Mode:
Create New Worlds in Creative mode until you get one with Horse Spawns
Save and Exit
Recreate that world in Survival mode
R-click on horse until it stops throwing you off and/or sprouts hearts
Shift-click to dismount
Repeat on all horses that you want to keep, as they have a nasty habit of despawning on you
This seed gave me several horses:
Also, feeding apples to tamed horses seem to make babies! They despawn quick though, so feed the babies to make them grow so you can tame them. If anyone knows a trick for keeping babies from despawning, without making them grow, please post
The seed -2471347037817761375 started me right in a plains village, with a few horses.
I'm finding that the seeds with "-" in front of the numbers will not replicate when you enter them by hand. You can recreate the original and make it Survival, but typing that seed into a blank new world will not work.
we have to remember the only reason we got a snapshot with horses is cos the minecraft realms team pushed for a snapshot. im assuming they dont act, spawn, generate, despawn, etc the way they are supposed to in 1.6. i dont think they really wanted to let them loose just yet. i hope they spawn frequently then, as they are farmeable for leather, not just cool as a commorade.
I've been searching for quite some hours on my survival world, with no luck I really want horses in my survival world, but I don't want to cheat. Hopefully mojang will modify the spawning algorith of the horses in the newest snapshot, so I don't have to spent that much time trying to find horses. They should also add the recipe for the leashes, because I'm having alot of fun with those things in creative mode
