Message me yours if you want to trade in Animal Crossing: New Leaf or just need some friends to play with. I can also do Pokemon trades in Pokemon X(or Y), but I don't have any good stuff, and the only good stuff I have is not for trade so...send me requests anyway.

the reason for this was that this is actually part of the old lava texture. the new lava texture merely has a smaller animation than the old one because of the new texture format. On topic, I agree that I liked the larger animation of the old lava and that the new feels a little less real.
As someone who's been playing since Beta1.3, I think I have at least somewhat of an argument in saying that it's just for nostalgic purposes. I've even been going out of my way to copy old food textures from my 1.2.5 folder into my snapshots textures folder.
As far as the brightness/hurting eyes thing goes, I never noticed. Yeah, it might be a little worse in the nether than in the overworld, but besides that, I don't care.
I don't like the 'new' lava texture just because it's really hard to see it moving. Yes, this is a very stupid nitpick, but honestly I have to strain my eyes to notice if it's static lava or just normal lava sometimes.
i loved the old one but it does look barfy these days not to sound like a nostalgia ***** but i loved alpha days and beta days and i do not really like the way jeb is going more rpg than sandbox i knew notch wanted it to be a rpg and jeb is keeping his dream true but heck 1.7.3 was my the most fun i had since 1.8 and above.
