Uh, what computer do you have the has more then 23GB of RAM???
Workstations that need all those bells and whistles to produce awesome media. I've got 24 gigs in mine since I'm learning 3d animation and video editing.
As I said, it just opened Minecraft up and I did get an out of memory error.
Not really buying it- unable to reproduce. All things equal, I ought- and anybody ought- to witness the exact same behaviour. It could be a special launcher you are using or perhaps even your Video Driver.
Interesting sidebar: You can check the usage of Memory by specific DLLs loaded in a process using Process Explorer.
-Right-click the columnheader in the lower pane, and choose "Select Columns..."
-Check off "WS Total Bytes"
-Sort the lower pane by The new column
In my case, the DLL that was using the most memory was "nvoglv64.dll" which is part of the Drivers I have installed; it's memory usage is around 2MB. Some Driver versions and software have issues and memory leaks, which will be attributed to the hosting Process- in this case, Minecraft's Java Host. Now, one might argue, "but none of my other games leak" Well, yes, but No game truly uses the hardware and software the same way. If the Driver has a leak bug only when accessed with the older OpenGL Specification, you will only be able to see it in programs that access it with that specification. So, unless the "other game" people often discuss is, say, Quake II, it's unlikely Minecraft is accessing the API through the same specification.
Either way, your issue is not typical. Something else is at work here.
Could it have been the Curse Client? I opened the new snapshot from there and then left my computer for like 10 minutes and when I came back I had the Out of memory error and when I opened the task manager I saw 4GBs being used by Minecraft.
I also have Magic Launcher (or a .bat file) and I too can allocate as much RAM as I want to Minecraft (read JAVA in Taskman Processes). I too could look like an and post a screenshot showing how much RAM java is "eating up". Sure, I could do all those things in a blantant attempt to show off my system specs. But I wouldn't- because I'm not an . Fail troll is fail.
I allocated 8Gb of memory to my minecraft and it actually run at around 800-1200 Mb most of the time. But when near a blaze farm or when detonating alot of TNT, like 4000+, I've seen it eat as much as 4Gb of ram. I bet it take a lot of resource to render many entities at the same time and keeping the frame rate decent.

Meh. I allocate 4gb, and Taskman says 4 is used. In game, with the F3 up, it says ~20% is used.. until I get to a jungle. The nether never touches it much, but the jungle.. I haven't went since I got my 660Ti, but with my 260, it would lag a bit.

Okay.... I was simply trying to get some help on how to get Minecraft to not use up so much memory. Apparently , that's to much to ask for on this forum because its full of people with false accusations. Once again, minecraft was opened up using the Curse Client and when I returned to play it was using 4GBs of memory with only the title screen and gave my computer an error. How is that in anyway showing off computer specs? I get it, the errors make my computer look pro... Thanks to anyone that attempted to help the problem.

Thank you Warfighter, I had asked if it was the curse client earlier and no one answered. All I received was false assumptions that didn't help my problem at all.
Yes, zedzdead... they were taken on a laptop because that's what I was playing Minecraft on... is that a problem? I am failing to see the humor...

Don't allocate 4gb to Minecraft. Let Minecraft allocate for you.
