So after having 2 Double chest of this Red ugly block for 3 months now, you can smelt it now and use it to make Nether Brick. Yes. Is Anyone excited about this feature?
I still wish it had a smooth alternative version. 4-1 is a little steep too, I added a custom trader to my server who "sold" nether brick for 2 netherrack

Well to be fair it is very fast to mine a lot of Netherrack in comparison to most blocks.

LOL. There's a TON of Netherrack in the Nether. It's more common than dirt and stone COMBINED (technically speaking). Even if the ratio was 16-1, it wouldn't be that much of a bother.
In addition, ugly pebbles can turn into purple bricks like how:
- Wood turns into ash.
- Sand turns into glass AND pure silicon.
- Ugly ores in general turn into shiny metal.
- Gunpowder and TNT can explode.
- Fuel in general turns into carbon dioxide.
- Splitting fissile atoms can kill you.
- Light and neutrinos can come out of the sun.
And that's just heat-related operations. Physical, chemical, and nuclear changes in general have a wide variety of results. Your argument is invalid.
OT: I think it's sort of redundant, since Nether Brick is common enough (if you find a Fortress, of course). It's nice that you don't have to deface said Fortresses, though.

To be fair I have a system to convert netherrack on my server already and even with it being 2-1 I never have enough to keep building with nether brick in the nether. Nether brick still needs a dark style compliment to break up it's monotony. I wanted nether rack -> refined nether rack (like smoothstone) -> nether brick

I agree that would be nice but this isn't that bad. I like not having to dismantle the fortresses to get Nether Brick now.
I dont get how ugly red rocks can melt into purple bricks
Probably has to do with burning and melting away some of the components of the netherrack. Plus heat does affect the physical traits of some materials like that. That's if you want to be realistic anyways.
Yea but you can only realistically use it for that so much. Now you can actually turn it into a decent looking building material.

This is minecraft, not real life...
Magic!
(Or perhaps a bit of chemistry but that would be silly in a make believe world.)

Your saying it didn't have a use before? It had serveral uses before this, it only adds to them.
Netherrack is like dirt, gravel an smooth stone. Ugly blocks that don't go good with anything.
Gravel is used as Flint
Dirt is used as farmland
Stone is used as Stone bricks and stone tools
Netherrack was used for nothing.
Now, it has a use to make a better looking block.

Fire....Lots and lots of fire.
Now I can build that nether brick castle I wanted to, and not have to dismantal a fortress to do so. Nice.
Netherrack is used for fire that doesn't burn out
