Hello everyone! First post here. I registered because of something that just annoyed me pretty much in the latest Minecraft update.
I was playing a hardcore game and did my best to survive as usual, where after several days, I dug into an underground ravine. Everything went pretty fine until, out of nowhere and all in a sudden, I got blown up by a that fell right on me, killing me. My reaction:
How the hell can I predict a Creeper to fall down there if I cannot hear it, nor see it? How the hell do you want to avoid it?
There's a rule in video gaming gameplay where you should "always give a chance to the player", but here, I got the massive blow of 49 hearts in my face without having a single chance (even with my full iron armour). I mean, come on, before, when you could hear the infamous hissing from the :SSSS:, you could have the chance of moving away and almost avoiding the blow. But now, in this case, you cannot. You just enter a new empty space without knowing what's having up above your head and die immediately without having the chance to know that there was a that awaited you. Damn, it's even worse than !
My suggestion would be, please Mojang, at least, make sure the hisses immediately after it hits the ground next to me instead of just blowing up immedaitely like a missile, which is too much insane and unavoidable. I wouldn't imagine what would happen if there was a bunch of Creepers instead of a single one...
Replace this:
Will start exploding when they hit the ground, with explosions being more imminent with higher falls
By this:
Will start hissing when they hit the ground
Because now, it's not fun.
Thanks!

That's the point of both hardcore mode and creepers. You need to be much more aware of your surroundings to avoid death, or simply clumber around in diamond/enchanted armor. You chose to play on hardcore, so don't be disappointed that you failed as a survivor. I know that feeling when it seems like you died unfairly, but in your scenario it seems like you just weren't cautious enough.
There should be some challenge in games. And there was. You were playing on Hardcore, so you took more damage. You could have looked up to see if there was anything. Yes, it can be annoying, but it happens.
This is the way creepers used to work a while back. I can remember always being cautious near cliffs for that reason, having been blown up many times by sky diving creepers.
Yeah, perhaps I had to be more cautious, but it's more annoying when you cannot check the surroundings as it's happening when you attempt to check. Oh dear, I think I'd have to look up more often then.

A creeper falling on you because you weren't careful enough is not a bad design choice. It's not as if he was walking along then randomly dropped dead. Is it wrong for you to be sneaking by lava, and a skeleton from the darkness shoot you into it? It was your fault due to oversight.

Do you honestly expect a player to be staring up at the ceiling 100% of the time? That's absurd. It's like saying that you must rotate seventy-two degrees every time the sun rises or you die. Sure, you can do it, and if you don't do it, it was your fault that you died, but it's still unreasonable.

Your response is ridiculous. Should I not be shot if I look away from the enemy in a shooter, then? What did you expect the creeper to do, announce its presence with a siren and give the OP ample time to move away? Protip: Minecraft has vertical height. If you don't want to die, know something isn't potentially above (or around) that can murder you.

This isn't about looking away from the enemy. This is about being shot by an enemy who was hiding in a spot that you'd only notice if you took several seconds to deliberately peer up into the ceiling.
Creepers are already very stealthy, but they give you a chance. Instantly detonating creepers that fall from the skies give you no chance.
It's somewhat acceptable in a game that doesn't punish death by destroying everything, but not in one where game over is forever.
My last hardcore death was from walking in a mineshaft and when I heard a creeper behind me I backed up into it(backing up is usually my first reaction to creepers which was a clumsy mistake).
Creepers don't instantly detonate when they hit the ground, even on hardcore. You can test this numerus times right now and see that it's factual. What happened is that the creeper entered explosive vicinity right before it hit the ground, giving the OP slightly less time than normal to move away. It wasn't an unfair death in any way.
Edit: Actually, I did test it. It seems the creeper, when falling, does not make the 'SssSssS' sound, which must be a bug, or maybe the sound is tied to its detonation animation. Either way, you can hear it hit the ground, and even the distinct 'ssk' sound of a creeper being harmed. I managed to move away thrice without armor and survive every time.
You should start holding shift near edges since it normally makes your stepping sounds less noisy, meaning you one have a better chance of not falling, and 2 have a better chance of a monster's stepping noise that sounds a whole lot like creepers, this is an option but its recommended.

Back in my days we didn't have these fancy shmancy "Minecraft" and "computers"! We only had LEGOS, and how did we use them? Put them in front of someone's door and let them step on them *chuckle* good times.
Your dumb fault you didn't look up. Creepers are back to the way they were plus more, which is good. I especially like the extra 33% of damage they deal on hard mode.

I was slimed to death by a swarm of slimes in the swamp.

It's a lot more fun being worried about enemies falling down on you to kill you.
Difficulty is good.
EDIT: After further inspection this isn't exactly applicable in Minecraft since Creepers don't go off instantly

True, but that doesn't apply here.

can you give me a reason beyond "it doesn't"?
