I see a lot of threads about what people DON'T like about the newest version of Minecraft, but not many about what people DO. Hence, this thread begins with the question: What features/mobs/blocks/gameplay mechanics/etc do you like about 1.4. and why?
A few things first:
*This is not the place for complaining about new features. If you don't like something/anything at all in 1.4, don't post in this thread.
*Apart from that, anything else is open for discussion.
I guess I should set the tone here, so here goes:
I like just about everything about the update. The Wither, first and foremost, presents a much greater challenge than the Ender Dragon, and is unique in being a hostile boss utility mob, something I found quite interesting about it. The update also connects it to the Beacon by making it the only source of the Nether Star, the item required to craft said Beacon. Bats add a degree of atmosphere to the game, spawning in the most appropriate place (a cave) and not following the usual cliche of just attacking the player en masse. They might not really do anything other than fly, but they do make caves a little more complete. That, and it's kinda funny seeing a bat ride in a minecart (yes, bats ride in minecarts).
The command block is my favorite addition with the gamerule command right behind it.
I also love the new frames as those give me an easy way to show off item textures as well as the blocks when doing my texture pack screen shots.
The beacon blocks should also be useful for creative map builders and making a full sized beacon is a challenge that ought to keep the people on survival busy for quite a while.

Tis far better to be a witty fool than a foolish wit.
My favorite addition has to go to the the carrot on a fishing pole. Something about riding a pig while leading it with a carrot fills me with a sense of joy that nothing else can replicate.
I almost forgot the custom flatmap settings! Being able to fine tune how worlds are built allows for the creation of some interesting (and difficult) survival challenges.

...and now it's your turn.
As much as I agree with you, this isn't a complaint thread, even if is about complainers.
It all looks amazing though.
